What are we trying to do? We want to make our zine look professional (and give you something cool to read, house on your shelf and feel good about spending your hard earned pennies on) So we want to stop printing on paper we steal from the University library and start printing on nice quality, recycled paper from an environmentally friendly printer. Unfortunately we learnt that it is expensive to be responsible. We need your help to get this bad boy off the ground!
The aims of our zine are to publish and print independent sources, opinions and art as an alternative to mainstream press.

Who are we? We are The Monthly Rag. We are a group of writers and artists from Melbourne. The Month in our name is more of a pun than a truth. We are more like the quarterly rag, but that is less fun. We have a
facebook so you know we are legit. Our first issue was a great success. 'Gender' was issue 1 (which you can still pick up from our facebook or the Sticky Institute in Degraves Street ) We had articles on everything from transexual politicians to birth control. This time round we are writing about globalization, nature and artifice- you know, casual topics of discussion you can take with you to work. We hope to be insightful, opinionated and well researched!
How can you help?
Basically, we printed and sold our first 80 copies out of our own pockets, believing so strongly in a fairly anti capitalist model that we charged less than cost price. Now, having realized we are too poor to fight the system that much, we want to simply cover costs. But we decided that if that's how it is going to be, we are going to let our patrons be able to buy a zine that was not terrible for the environment. Your donation will help us with the initial run of 100 zines from our new printing paradise.
