“Pub Crawl” tells
the story of Matthew and Jeremy, two video game enthusiasts in their mid
twenties. Their usual day of video gaming is interrupted when power is lost to
their home. Unable to defeat their boredom, a race to their local pub is held
where they encounter difficulties on the way. With their video gaming
background, it is no surprise when their quest turns into more than just a
simple race. These guys are throwing themselves into the most physical thing
they’ve done in years, all for bragging rights and a nice cold glass of beer.
The story is a fun, entertaining and light piece that will
make the viewer smile. It is not designed to change the way people think about
themselves and makes one think that there is a deeper meaning to the film. It
is purely and simply, told to entertain. It is relatable as everyone
has that one friend, or sibling or work mate where they can goof around with
and but be completely competitive with. It will also be visually different. By
bringing the retro video game look to the story it will add an extra layer of
interest to the film. It is a funny, quirky, modern take on a buddy/slacker
film that is visually rich with believable dialogue and good comedic action.
Primarily, the film is aimed at Gen Y, which are teenagers
through to those in their early 30’s. This age bracket lives online and is
always connected. It is there where we want this film to be shared and seen. It
is our intention that this will become a viral video to become part of poplar
culture and it is Gen Y that will most likely share this amongst their friends
through social media. However, it can easily appeal to a larger market, as the
relationship between the two main characters is relatable. At some stage in
everyone’s life, the have had someone, whether it be their best friend or a
sibling, that they have this competitiveness and the will to out do each other
but at the end of the day, still love each other dearly. It will also attract
those who are currently gamers as well as people who grew up playing the arcade
style and early video games in their childhood.
The main source of inspiration for the visual style and
shooting style of the film are movies directed by Edgar Wright. It is a mixture
of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgram vs The World. It will follow the
shooting style and camera movements similar to those used in Shaun of the Dead
but with special effects like that in Scott Pilgram vs the World.
How The Funds Will Be Used
With your help, these funds will be used to:
- Help provide meals to the incredible hard working and talented crew who were carefully selected to work on this project
- Hiring of extra equipment that is not provided by the university to provide a more professional quality to the film and make it stand out from other graduate projects
- Cover make up, costume and set design costs that will help bring the world of the film to life
The Challenges
Right now the biggest challenge is making sure we have the funding to provide everything we need for the shoot.
