As passionate as a Puritan poet and polemic pamphleteer I am pregnant with an historical novel, conceived in a virtual image of a London parish register which records my Great Grandparents during Oliver Cromwell's reign.
"July 17, 1655, William Clark, son of John Clark, a Souldier, and Thomasine, his wife, who herself went for a Souldier, and was billeted at the Three Hammers, in East Smithfield, about seven months, and after was delivered of this child, the 16th day of this July, and was baptized the 17th in her lodging, being one Mr. Hubber's house. She had been a souldier, by her own confession, about 5 years, and was sometime Drummer to the Company."
It's taken 11 generations of anonymous working-class ancestors to write their stories. A blend of fact and fiction, information and entertainment, in a time of technological change and an English spring which petitioned for democracy 370years ago!
I am the blogging black sheep who requires financial support of $A3,000 to research and write a first draft of the story of a young woman who comes of age battling and drumming for a Republic of England in the New Model Army.
$1000 a month will assist with living expenses so my husband is not pressured to do overtime and me feel distracted and pressured to find a job. Rather, I want to continue with my passion, researching and writing a first draft of "Love in an English Republic" (working-title).
$200 a week will buy food, increased use of broadband plan and subscriptions to access in-depth historical material.
My previous arts practice has been over 20 years of writing, producing and performing puppet shows: details at
My personal interest in Politics and Religions also suits this historical novel because that is the social democratic journey I am on:
It is also a delightful surprise to find that Poet John Milton (who I studied in a literature major for B.A.) was employed by Cromwell for his skill with languages to aid foreign diplomacy and do the Public Relations..
It is these kind of revelations which I aim to weave into my narrative AND the ballad which I found referenced at the University of California
