Our ‘Let’s Be Friends’ art campaign aims to encourage the building of intercultural relationships between people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds through collaborative art projects with diverse artists. We are creating an entire creative project for schools, families and individuals to share the story of friendship and diversity.
'Hello to Me'
The children's book, 'Hello to Me,' is our first project, introducing a young girl named 'Joanne' who has multiple disabilities including autism, hearing loss and is nonverbal. The book shares a story of how she gets along with her friends with different disabilities as well as the neurotypical people around her. Everyone needs friends, but it's not always easy to be friends with someone different from ourselves. Sometimes, we need creative and open minds to connect with people from different cultural and social backgrounds. Unfortunately, we don't often get opportunities to share stories about children with disabilities, so our creative team hopes this book will provide an opportunity for children, parents and educators to discuss diverse friendships and what friendship means to individuals, especially children with disabilities.
'What Does Friendship Mean to You?'
The significance of this project is not only a meaningful story but also the journey of making the book. We are making a short documentary film called, 'What does friendship mean to you?', which will share individual meanings of friendship and how a group of creative people can work together collaboratively
to achieve its goals, regardless of whether we are neurotypical or neurodiverse. When we work together, we make a creative synergy to move one step further toward social inclusion.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2018, there are 4,221 primary schools across Australia. The ultimate goal will be to donate one copy of the book to each primary school library. We would like to invite you to be a part of our project! Your contribution can offer children a chance to learn more about social and cultural diversity and intercultural friendship!
