Hi, I'm Justin and waywardbreed is me when I make music. I'm about to release my third album 'brother songs' and this campaign is for pre-ordering the vinyl version of that album. Here's a taste of what you can expect on that record:

But before I go any further, i should tell you about all the things that have changed for me since I released the last waywardbreed album 'gathering for the feast' in 2013.

Firstly, I met someone, fell in love and now that person is my wife. We were married just over a year ago, witnessed by some many close friends and family. I'm as happy as I've ever been. And now were expecting our first baby, a little girl. And I mean any minute now! My wife could be going into labour as I write this.

So, I guess you could say this album, 'brother songs', is the second most important thing I'll make this year, but no less vital to the person i am. I'm lame enough to say that I want my daughter to be proud of what I've done and what I do. This album is, in part, for her.

Secondly, since the last record, waywardbreed has grown from being a solo project, to a duo, trio and all the way up to a full seven-piece band. I'm truly blessed to be playing music with my good friends, who also happen to be amazing musicians.

Finally, we get to this album, 'brother songs'. It was recorded over two hectic weekends in between full-on full-time work by a wonderful songwriter, Alison Ferrier; mixed by Jeff Lang, who humbly describes himself as "one of Australia's male guitarists", but is so much more; and mastered by the master himself, Simon Grounds. The album features Andrew Watson, Chris Willard, Christopher Mildren, Elizabeth Barker, Duncan McBride, Tom Hoskins, Domenic Stanton, David Lewis, Glendon Blazely and Lisa Marmur. It will be released through Hawk Moth Records, a small but growing local Melbourne label borne out of the wild imagination of my brother in song, Mathew Barker.

I'm very fortunate to have had all of this support in making the record. However, it's a costly exercise in every way. So, I need your help to make it into a thing: an object; a work of art; a timeless document; something to spin on your turntables forevermore.

And for your help, you will be rewarded with music.

How The Funds Will Be Used

All of the money for this campaign will be put towards the production of 250 vinyl albums by the wonderful people at Pirates Press (in the Czech Republic), including vinyl pressing, all printing costs and shipping. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Challenges

This is but one of a number of challenges before me now: balancing work with the need to be immersed in music; the challenges I face as a first time father (I have no idea what I'm doing); the challenge of always making something new and interesting. If I fall short of the mark on this campaign, I'll find a way to make it happen.
