Help HST go Cuckoo!!!
ASSIST US MAKE SOME EPIC THEATRE
In November 2011, Human Sacrifice Theatre is launching its biggest project to date: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
This piece is going to be truly epic! With a fantastic cast and crew already attached, we're looking to cap it all off with a tremendous set. We've already sold some pre-sale tickets, so the word is out that this show is going to be amazing!! We're moving in to the bigger theatre at Chapel off Chapel to help us improve and step up to the next level.
Staging One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest at Chapel Off Chapel is a great challenge and we’d love for you to be involved. We are aiming to raise $3000, and the successful project will ensure that your money will be put directly into creating a great set as well as funding some of the printing costs. See set concept below.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest offers the perfect form of entertainment – an uplifting night in the theatre full of comedy and drama, at the highest possible standard. Here is a distinctive, mainstream play full of heart; a crowd-pleasing triumph of the underdog.
BENEFITS TO YOU
As a contributor to our project there are many benefits. We'll also keep you in the loop of how it's all going. We'll send you regular updates keeping you informed about all the little successes and failures. You'll also get to see a little documentary called Building the Nest, which will let you know how the play is coming together. Yes there are many challenges.

HUMAN SACRIFICE THEATRE
The company, formed in 2006, is dedicated to producing entertaining, thought provoking theatre that challenges the status-quo. With our selection of plays and hard-hitting, go- for-broke acting, Human Sacrifice Theatre has established a formidable corner of the live theatre market. We create truly memorable experiences for our patrons, whether it’s just an intimate two-hander in a small bar, or a twenty- seven strong cast in a conventional theatre. With our strong body of acclaimed work, the company’s recognition is growing, making us one of the most respected independent theatre companies.
Human Sacrifice Theatre has grown into a company of four artists whose talents include acting, directing, filmmaking, theatre design and graphics. The core team includes Mark Diaco, Justin Hosking, Linc Hasler and Thanassi Arthur Panagiotaras.

"Human Sacrifice Theatre is a company with an impressive history, a successful present and an exciting future. They choose texts which are intelligent, relevant and perfectly suited to their style and talent." - The Age.
ABOUT THE PLAY and HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a play that premiered in 1963, one year after Ken Kesey's bestselling novel of the same name was published. Dale Wasserman's stage adaptation made its Broadway premiere, running through 1964. Since then, the play has had two revivals: first off-Broadway in 1971, then as a Broadway production in 2001 with Gary Sinise playing the role of McMurphy. A film version based on the novel was released in 1975 and was nominated for 9 Academy awards. In 1976, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest became the first film in 41 years to sweep the major categories of best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay.
The 1964 Broadway production starred Kirk Douglas as McMurphy, Gene Wilder as Billy Bibbit, and Ed Ames as Chief Bromden. Douglas retained the rights to make a movie version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for a decade, but was unable to find a studio willing to make it with him. Eventually, he gave the rights to his son Michael Douglas, who succeeded in getting the movie produced. At that time, Kirk Douglas was deemed too old for the role of McMurphy, and the role was given to Jack Nicholson.
