FILM SYNOPSIS
Sarah Meinhardt isn't just a poet. She's a Master Poet... and you better believe it!
It's finally happened. One of Sarah's poems is getting published. Sure it's in an online "anthology" and she has to pay for the whole thing herself - but that's not going to deter Sarah. Publication means validation! But when Sarah's steely housemate refuses to lend the cash-strapped poet the money she needs, Sarah decides to take matters into her own hands.

HOW THE PROJECT CAME ABOUT
Many many years ago an eager arts student handed me her business card. But it only contained her name, not any qualifications or services being offered. She had a business card but no business. It was quite bizarre. Years later I thought I could apply this scenario to a character who is (or at least is trying to be) an artist. Desperate for validation, Sarah creates some business cards labelling herself a 'Poet.' But what does this actually mean?
We live in a time where everyone is self-publishing and self-proclaiming. Everybody is a writer, actor, photographer, blogger, reviewer, designer, director. We don't need a degree to be any of these things. So how does someone with aspirations of an artistic life know if she/he is legit? Is it only if someone else comes to the party? Is it only if you get paid to create? In her quest to be recognised, Sarah becomes caught up in the veneer of it all - her sense of self very much tied to how others view her and her work.
MASTER POET is a two-hander black comedy centred on Sarah and her friend/housemate Abby - who is wildly unimpressed at Sarah's 'publication' offer. It's a bittersweet story about the difficulty of following your passion, the rewards of friendship and that prevalent human desire to be of significance in this world.
