My project is a one-person show that combines performance poetry with storytelling and stand-up comedy. The show is inspired by the current debate around gender equality in Australia - it centres around the female experience, and seeks to understand the ideologies behind public attitudes towards women.
The budget breakdown:
- $550 Metro Arts' Creative Development program fee (this includes the use of the theatre for rehearsals and for the performance, as well as publicity support and provision of a mentor)
- $55 production of poetry zines for pledge rewards (includes postage)
- $40 production of bound show scripts for pledge rewards (includes postage)
- $35 Pozible's service fee
- $20 PayPal and banking fees
Metro Arts (metroarts.com.au) has already accepted my application to their Creative Development program (Jul-Dec), which included a performance proposal and evidence of previous work. They accepted my application on the strength of my concept, and the fact that I was clear in my intention for the show. I have recently performed material that will be going into my first show, in small solo spots at festivals and slams.
