Your pledge can get this new work on the stage! We've found the most extraordinary venue at the Meat Market Stables, have got a dazzling team, and have some incredibly beautiful music to share.
WORK SHOW evolved from my experiences working in a factory, sewing cinema curtains to 8 hours a day of non-stop commercial radio. It seemed to me that repetitive manual labour demanded a strange combination of total focus and the absence of thought. My co-workers, who were from many walks of life, mastered this combination, save the occasional minor bloody injury. What happens when a person is impersonally engaged with a task, where error is physically dangerous, while immersed in the nostalgic soaring emotion of commercial radio? I wondered how large Whitney Houston could loom in my emotional life. Turned out, pretty large.

Badminton. Tango. Bubblewrap seizures. WORK SHOW presents the very personal nature of working in even the most impersonal jobs.
Cast: Jalen Lyle-Holmes, Bruce Woolley, Louise O'Dwyer and Katherine Connolly, with live music by Georgia Spain.
Katherine Connolly
Previous work: The Great Game
Praise for The Great Game:
"At once extremely batty and highly intellectual . . . an individual and exploratory artistic voice." - Nick Spunde, Concrete Playground
"Connolly, as both an actor and a writer, has a talent for impressions and caricatures, and is very funny when she takes it to extremes." - Rebecca Harkins-Cross, The Age
" . . . highly original, playful and slightly disturbing." - Kate Kingsmill, Artshub
Bruce Woolley
Previous work: Uncle Vanya, Miracle Man
Praise for Uncle Vanya:
"...but the standout performer is Bruce Woolley as the delightfully strange and hugely appealing Doctor Astrov. His presence in the estate and his reactions to those around him border on autistic, often to hilarious effect." - Vulture magazine
Praise for Miracle Man:
"Woolley depicts Moran and his superhuman alter-ego with great economy and a disarming poignancy, portraying the dual persona of everyman and demigod with engrossing nuance." - Australian Stage
Louise O'Dwyer
Previous work: How's Your Acting Going?
Praise for How's Your Acting Going?:
"A tour-de-force of comedy intertwined flawlessly with incredible moments of insight.
Moves from the outrageous and hilarious to the moving and sad without missing a beat" - Leonard Miller
‘delightfully deadpan’ – The Age
‘Smooth, seamless and engaging . . . A sophisticated and confident performance’ - Jill Page
Jalen Lyle-Holmes
Praise for previous work:
"I so enjoyed Jalen Lyle-Holmes fun energetic performance." - Stage Whispers
Georgia Spain
Since the release of her debut EP in late 2015, Georgia Spain spent most of 2016 touring around the UK and Europe, whilst writing a new collection of songs for her debut album, to be recorded in 2017. Her songs stem from deeply personal places bound by grief and loss, and her performances are charged with a rare sense of rawness and vulnerability. Having moved audiences around the USA, as well as at home for festivals such as Cygnet Folk Festival (TAS), Port Fairy Folk Festival (VIC), and at the National Gallery of Victoria (MELB) and Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Georgia Spain is a songwriter you can't afford to miss.

The Challenges
The challenges of this process are the familiar hair-raising ones of all theatre-making ventures. The hurtling into the unknown, and the wrangling of form and content into readable communication for an audience. Alongside this is the administrative processes, the sourcing of rehearsal spaces and the searching for money. So far we have had some excellent good fortune around all these areas, so we're pretty grateful from the outset!
