What your project is about?
"Cracking Up" is a comedic ensemble created by the Mental Health Coalition with the belief that laughter is the best medicine. 1 in 5 people will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives and our goal is to reduce the stigma associated with mental health through comedy.
In conjunction with Mental Health Week we plan to put on a variety show which includes monologues, stand-up comedy routines, performances, artwork and digital media which revolve around the theme of living with a mental illness. This event is to be held at the Box Factory Community Centre at 59 Regent Street South, Adelade.
Who are you, your background and where in the world are you located?
We are an ensemble of performers brought together by the Mental Health Coalition of South Australia. In the past we have worked on shows for the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Mental Health Week which is held in October. We are currently writing for our next round of rehearsals in September in preparation for a performance at the Box Factory for Mental Health Week 2012.
Your Funding Goal and what rewards are you planning to give back to your supporters?
Our funding goal is $250. This amount is to go towards bringing in professional comedians to help with polishing our routines in the four weeks leading up to the performance. The charges in the past have been at a rate of $50 an hour so this should cover four rehearsals and a final dress rehearsal.
We are considering giving away Mental Health Week T Shirts for $25 or above pledges. We will only have 5 or so.
We also have a few poetry books which we can give away for $20 pledges.
We have one DVD called In My Own words stories of mental health which we can give away for a $30 pledge
