Hello friends and supporters!!

Deadlines for the 2013 Movie Extra Tropfest competition are just around the corner and this year, a fresh storm of talented AFTRS grads and industry professionals are banding together to give life to a daring, black musical comedy written by the divine Gary Sewell.

Our quirky little film is called "Bursting!", and in a visceral embodiment of the Tropfest signature item (Balloon), it's about following your dream...no matter whose bubbles you burst along the way...This story is about a shy young girl who dreams of singing, which she wants more than anything else in the world. The only problem is that she literally has a killer voice…

Singing, dancing and brain explosions will be inescapable - we can't wait and would love for you to jump on board too!!

Production Details

‘Bursting!’ is the first short film for production company Spinach Puff Productions and it’s certainly a story that we feel passionately about – we believe it holds all the elements that makes short films great: it’s sharp, funny, a little bit dark, entertaining, quirky, tells a heartfelt story with a twist and most importantly – it’s short! We just need YOUR help to get it off the ground.

We’ll be filming in a few weeks and are in desperate need of funds to get our project off the ground. And that’s where YOU come in!

Where your pledge money will go

Your pledge money will form the majority of our much needed funds to create this film!

All of our team are working for love, but money is needed for equipment, costuming, set dressing, production and very importantly – make up and special effects! We want our film to look and sound as bright, colourful, quirky and fantastic as it can and need your help to do so. There are also other factors like feeding our hard-working, hungry cast and crew, transporting equipment and sourcing fantastic locations that will all serve to bring the Bursting! world to life!

How does Pozible work? What do I get?

Now for those of you who are new to the tantalising world of Pozible, it's a crowdfunding platform that allows people to donate to particular creative projects – in this case, ours! 

We have set a target and if we don’t meet it, none of the donations are processed. It’s all or nothing fundraising, and we need everyone’s support in order to meet our goal.

Of course we would love to go above and beyond our $3500 target. We have a very resourceful team but obviously the more money we raise, the more options we have and the better our film will be! Think of the head explosions!

You can pledge as little or as much to the project though and if you wish, you can also claim some of our exciting rewards in return for your donation. In any event, we want to spread the word as far and wide as possible so even if you're not in a position to contribute financially, we would love it if you could join with us in expanding our social networks to garner as much support for the project as we can!

The Team!

Gary Sewell – Writer

Gary Sewell is a screenwriter who graduated from the WA Screen Academy in 2008. He's since worked in the script departments television dramas such as RESCUE Special Ops, Wild Boys. He's currently writing and storylining for Home and Away. Gary's created and produced his own cheeky web series Sintillate Studios and continues to develop his own (mostly twisted) projects.

Brendan Cain – Director

Brendan Cain is a directing graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School. He is an award-winning filmmaker who has been producing films since the age of 16. Brendan aspires to be a director of compelling narratives that move and entertain people.

Producer – Katie Amos

Katie Amos is a producing graduate of AFTRS and an avid lover of musicals! She has worked in development in various capacities while also producing short films in drama and documentary. Katie's worked with most of this fantastic team before and can't wait to bring this colourful tale to the screen, with our ensemble of very enthusiastic supporters!

Associate Producer – Karly Pisano

Karly is Artistic Director at Spinach Puff Productions and is the Associate Producer on the film. She has worked in many areas of theatre, including directing and producing, and is incredibly excited about her company's first short film.

DOP – Samuel Halpin

Samuel is a cinematography graduate from AFTRS who has been ardently involved in a great deal of theatre and consequently musicals from an early age. He has won awards for both his directing and cinematography and is simply itching to get stuck into his first film since graduating. 'Bursting' promises to be a feast for the eyes and ears, as well as an aesthetic challenge for our marvellous team. 

Production Designer – Ella Carey

Ella is a production and costume designer, recently graduated from AFTRS. The tantalising world of Bursting! gives her the chance to delve in to a rich, stylistic design with a beautiful palette.

Editor – Kelly Cameron

Kelly is the managing director of Spinach Puff Productions and is also the Editor of this fabulous production. She has worked on a number of shorts in a variety of areas but having studied the Graduate Diploma in Editing at AFTRS this year, she is excited to launch her professional career with this great team.

Sound Designer – Beth Bezzina

Beth is a recent graduate of AFTRS, having completed a Graduate Diploma in Sound. She has worked on a number of short films and is fascinated by the impact sound has on an audience’s cinematic experience. She is incredibly excited about her role as Supervising Sound Editor on Bursting! and looks forward to working with the wonderful production team.

Composer – Melisande Wright

Melisande is a composer and songwriter, graduating from the Conservatorium in Adelaide as well as studying Screen Music at AFTRS. She was raised on musicals and is looking getting stuck in to Bursting! as well as working with such a vibrant and enthusiastic team.
