At the end of this year 90+ graphic design and illustration students from the University of South Australia will be completing their Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication. After three years of sketching, experimentation, late nights and too much coffee we are finally ready to put our skills into practice. Each year the graduating class puts on an exhibition in order to celebrate our creative efforts and to showcase our designs to family, friends and industry contacts.

(but...)

The expenses of marketing, promotional material, set-up, lighting, catering and drinks are all organised and funded wholly by the graduates. For all this we need money! Your donations would really, hugely, immensely help us in creating a spectacular opening night - which we want to celebrate with you!

Our theme for this year’s exhibition is “Herding Cats”; an idiomatic saying that describes an attempt to organise a group of individuals of an uncontrollable or chaotic nature. This is reflective of our time at uni where a myriad of creative minds and approaches are working side by side in a collaborative space. More specifically, it also refers to the primary task of our graduate exhibition; bringing together or ‘rounding up’ a diverse range of visual styles and ideas.

The Challenges

The greatest challenge that we face in putting on our graduate exhibition involves juggling a full-time study workload (and rising HECS debts) - in addition to funding the costs of exhibition setup, we will also have to cover the costs of completing our own projects throughout the semester and preparing work for our portfolios.

The larger the budget we have to work with, the greater the chance we have of putting on a professional-level exhibition that will attract the industry contacts that we would love to meet. We really appreciate any help you give us and in return you could end up with a limited edition piece from a soon-to-be famous graphic designer or illustrator (fingers crossed)!

Your name on the aforementioned banner! A copy of 'Collect' magazine, issue no. 2. This Adelaide produced magazine is unfortunately no longer in production, so now’s your chance to get a hold of a piece of local memorabilia before they’re all gone. The magazine is a celebration of people and communities who value quality and craftsmanship and features both local and international creative talent.
