THE BIG PICTURE - Healing time stories
Aboriginal Law is etched into the landscape. Dreamtime stories tell of its morals and values.
Healing time stories are about involving Aboriginal youth-at-risk in the creative process of ´re-dreaming the Dreaming´. The stories are about sharing Aboriginal knowledge and placing this in a contemporary setting against contemporary social issues such as alcoholism etc. Entering this healing space allows for the opportunity to teach each other so we can all learn and grow together.
Combining traditional Aboriginal values & customs with contemporary social problems in a children's picture book setting opens up a creative path for Aboriginal youth-at-risk to choreograph a positive outcome for both the characters of the book as well as for themselves in their own lives.
THE PROJECT - The Fisherman & the Mermaid Angel
When the fisherman and the mermaid angel meet there is no sign of friendship. The fisherman's instinct however tells him to take her to the place she has asked him to go.
They leave with nothing but the fisherman's bush knowledge and skills provide them with food, water, warmth and direction.
As the fisherman re-connects with his identity and goes about doing his business, the mermaid angel observes his way-of-life and becomes interested in his spirituality, country and culture.
THE BUDGET - $4200.00
'The Fisherman & the Mermaid Angel' is the first in a series of healing time stories. The story will be made into a children's picture book.
The collected funds will go towards graphic design and printing. We are hoping to get volunteers involved in helping the youth with the illustrations.
