Reasons to Stay Inside is a beautiful, heartwarming, funny, and important show for ... well ... it's for everyone. We first presented the work as part of the 2015 Melbourne Fringe Festival where we received the Fringe Award for Best Kids Show.
Now, we are dusting off the lightsabers, re-stocking the supply of Skittles and airing out the Pegacorn onesie as we prepare to bring the show to PERTH!

We are very excited to have the opportunity to present this work as part of the The Blue Room Theatre's Summer Nights program for Perth Fringe.  And this is where we need a little financial help ...

Reasons to Stay Inside was written by award-winning playwright, Katy Warner. Her inspiration for the piece came from her own experiences with anxiety and a desire to start some important conversations with young people. However, don't expect a didactic piece of education theatre - Reasons to Stay Inside is a delightful and sometimes silly piece which appeals to all ages.

Reasons to Stay Inside has been realised by an incredibly talented group of Melbourne artists: Playwright Katy Warner (Best New Writer: Melbourne Fringe Awards), director Prue Clark (Green Room nominee, Best Director: Independent Theatre), lighting designer Amelia Lever-Davidson (Green Room nominee, Best Lighting Design: Independent and Theatre Companies), set / costume designer Yvette Turnbull (The Theory of Everything, Brisbane Festival), composer / sound designer Lachlan Millsom and actors Oliver Coleman (Therese Raquin, Rivers of China) and Emma Annand (Bock Kills her Father) along with stage / production manager, Luke Preer

The team collaborated to create this moving and visually stunning performance for families.

The Melbourne Fringe season was entirely self-funded. This time around, the expenses are a little more than we can handle on our own (have you seen how expensive flights are to Perth from Melbourne? It is ridiculous!) and this is where we are asking for a little support.

How The Funds Will Be Used

We are so fortunate to have secured a season at The Blue Room Theatre as part of their Summer Nights Program for Perth Fringe:
22 January 5.30pm // 23 – 25 January 6.30pm (plus 4.30pm on 24 January)
The Blue Room Theatre - blueroom.org.au/events/reasons-to-stay-inside/

The Blue Room Theatre have offered incredible support, particularly in regards to venue hire, however ... there is nearly 3,000km between us and The Blue Room and we have to get there ...

Funds will assist in making the trek (flight) across the desert as well as help pay some of the accommodation costs whilst we are in Perth. As you can imagine, it is a big undertaking to pick up a show and travel it across the country but we really believe in this production and want to reach as many people as possible.

Our biggest expenses are:

Return flights for 4 people - $1700.00
Accommodation for 6 nights - $1500.00

The team heading to the West will be the two actors, director and stage / production manager.

Whilst most of this tour has been entirely self-funded, we are seeking just a little help to pay for some of these expenses.

The Challenges

Tickets for the Blue Room Theatre season are already SELLING FAST! We are hoping this trend will continue and we have a sell-out season.
The biggest challenge is getting the publicity we need for the show - there is a lot on during the Fringe so, whilst that means more people are out and about seeing shows it also means they have a lot more to choose from. Writer, Katy Warner, is originally from Perth and this the first show she is "bringing home" - we hope this will be a draw card for some publicity.
It also helps that we received the Fringe Award for "Best Kids Show" which, hopefully, means audiences are more likely to take a chance on us!
