Kellee Green

I've been fortunate to have been part of the incredible community of jazz musicians in Meanjin (Brisbane) for three decades, performing original music by other people. Now I'm excited to finally step out on my own as band leader and composer, and explore themes that are important to me through music.

My album of new music, Home, will be recorded in late September 2024. I'll be joined on the album by Samuel Vincent (bass) and John Parker (drums) - two-thirds of the renowned award-winning jazz trio, Trichotomy - as well as guest artists Andrew Butt (saxophone) and Kristin Berardi (vocals). 

My two children have finished high school and are at the beginning of their own big journeys, and that combined with some other huge life things means that I feel like I'm stepping into my own second act. It's a time of reflection and gratitude, of soul-searching and apprehension, of trepidation and excitement. I've been so grateful to have music as a vehicle through which to explore and express all of these thoughts and feelings, so this album and the songs on it are very meaningful to me. There are compositions about home and family, love and strength, humour and sorrow, anger and hope. I've written songs for my husband, my children, my parents, my friends, myself and people I don't know but with whom I feel a strong sense of solidarity. 

While the album will be available on Bandcamp as a digital download, this campaign is to help with the cost of a vinyl pressing of the album, complete with original embroidery artwork. It will be available as a digital release around mid-November and, if this campaign is successful, a vinyl release early in 2025.

Even if you aren't interested in purchase a vinyl version of the album, pre-ordering the digital version via this campaign will allow me to fund the vinyl release, for which I'll be eternally grateful.

Records will be pressed right here in Meanjin by Suitcase Records on 140gm Black Low Carbon Compound, with FSC Certified labels and spine jacket. The low carbon compound has 92% less embodied carbon than standard black vinyl and this, combined with the FSC Certified packaging (no plastic), make these the most sustainable records in Australia.

This run will be a pressing of 100 at a total cost of $2700. Postage and packaging for each record is $25 (included in the cost of your Pozible pledge if you're getting the album on vinyl).
