Drawn to experience is a group exhibition, that I have curated independently. I am excited by the artists currently engaging in the physical act of drawing and the dynamic and contemporary art form and want to share these amazing works with the community. Presenting works on paper, video installation and live-performance, Drawn to experience aims to investigate experimental and experiential modes of drawing practice, and includes works by established and emerging Australian and internationally based artists.

Drawn to experience presents 7 artists’ approach to Performance Drawing. This exhibition investigates the multi-disciplinary practice of drawing as an expansive and inclusive act.
Drawn to Experience consists of works on paper, digital drawings, photographic/video performance documentation and live drawing performance. We are honored to include works by Gosia Wlodarzcak (Australia) whose drawings covered the entrance to Brisbane’s GOMA (2012), Morgan O'Hara (New York) whose
LIVE TRANSMISSION graced the Center for Recent Drawing in London (2012), Tony Orrico’s (Chicago) physical symmetry practice of a “state of readiness” (recently acquired by the New Museum, NY), Mar Serinya’s (Barcelona) sensuous body drawings, Jaanika Peerna’s (Estonia/New York) physical weather drawings, William Platz’s (Australia/New York) performative discussion on the artist/model, Rebecca Kinsey’s (Australia) Brooklyn performance mapping, Colleen Coleman’s (New York) ‘Ode to Walter Benjamin and live performance by Kellie O'Dempsey (Australia).
Performance Drawing is a mode of enquiry that incorporates the artist, the act of drawing as performance, the body and audience as participant and/or model.
As a survey of Performance Drawing,
Drawn to experience features works by established and emerging artists, and aims to identify a range of experimental methods of image generation through a performative process.
This survey aims to stimulate dialogue and a direct inquiry into experimental and experiential modes of drawing practice, and locate Performance Drawing in a broader understanding of contemporary art production.
Facilitated by participating artists Kellie O'Dempsey, this not for profit exhibition is made possible by the generosity and desire of the contributing artists’ to engage in an international discussion on Performance Drawing.
We aim to stimulate this investigation by publishing related articles, promoting the exhibition nationally, and featuring the presentation of a new drawing works.
