After 5 years of photography as a freelance journalist covering political events, conventions, interviewing celebrities, my work has finally been recognized thanks to the support and kindness of caring souls such as yourself who were touched by the messages in the moments I captured.
Photography has always been a passion of mine since childhood, and I've always been interested in spreading what's going on in the world to people.
After covering one event recently, one of my photographs began to spread around the world and has become known as the photo used to fight racism across Australia. (See image below), I know now that I need to step further into photojournalism and take more of a proactive approach to my work and spreading the important events which happen around me.
The camera I use is getting pretty old and banged up, and I only have two lenses. Taking photographs in the field when things are getting chaotic doesn't give me much time to change my lens to suit what I see in front of me, meaning I may miss an important shot (something which has happened multiple times)
Getting more visible is the most difficult part of this project, only possible through advertising. I got a fair amount of exposure thanks to that one photo, however, that does not last and unless I can keep it going through advertising I cannot share such photography as widely and the message gets lost in the noise of the internet.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Equipment:
Camera: $1000 - $1,500 depending on funding. (Nikon D5300 or Nikon D7200 respectively)
Lenses: $800-$1000 (Nikon AF-S 70-300mm) or Nikon AF-S 18-200mm
SD Cards: can possibly cover this myself, will only get this if I get extra funding.
Batteries: $70 but will possibly cover this myself unless I get extra funding.
Advertising:
Youtube: $400-$550 for one month of advertising.
Facebook: $650ish for one month.
EXTRA: to cover rewards to you those who donate to this endeavor.
If this project goes beyond the funding goal, I will use the extra for advertising and smaller items like SD cards and batteries for my equipment.

The Challenges
Money is one thing, it gets me the equipment I need to upgrade - but getting the word out is harder. And it's only been through sheer luck that the photo I showed you before went global.
I need to advertise heavily, through YouTube and Facebook to hit different audiences who want different things.
But one of the major challenges can only be solved without the use of money - word of mouth is the only solution. Getting my work out there requires a mix of both; paid advertising, and word of mouth by the kindness of those who are moved by my work.
