circuitBoard is a hybrid media art platform with virtual + f2f meetups and an exchange forum on the topic of repair/reuse/repurpose technology to disrupt the chain of e-waste.
circuitBoard media arts meetups encourage artists, non-artists, hobbyists, and tinkerers from any level of experience to participate.
They involve "challenges" such as:
- seeing what we can create together with limited technology
- exchanging our equipment and media with others to see what we can create
- open/participatory "jam" like performances
The version of the website platform is a prototype project including a forum (circuitboard.im/share) and video conferencing meetups. I hope that the platform will eventually be created and designed with collaborators and partners, so join me :)
Value Statement:
Repair and reuse can generate community in different cultural contexts
Consumer electronic waste that is shipped to developing countries can be reduced
The project has the potential to provide opportunities for people with limited access to resources to create media art. This could be facilitated by meditating and liaising between people who have the means for technology and disadvantaged communities, or even person-person on a gift-basis through the circuitBoard platform.
Budget Overview
The funds will help me with meetup.com/circuitboard subscriptions which are no longer free to small groups and cost $98 per 6 months. They will be contributed to web hosting and domain costs, see circuitboard.im. Currently, I have received $850 from my university to find people to host workshops and buy necessary materials.
