We are the Sweethearts, a soul fusion band of 25 teenage girls from Geelong, Australia.

It's our 25th anniversary year and we need $25,000 to help fund our first ever US tour!

Can you please help us get from G-Town to Motown?

We are the only school band that operates exclusively in professional settings, playing an average of fifty gigs per year at festivals, clubs and corporate events around Australia. We have played the European festival circuit, including several appearances at Montreux. In 2012 we headlined a night of Italy’s Porretta Soul Festival.

That night changed Sweethearts forever, because Larry Dodson from The BarKays pleged to help us with our first ever promotional tour of the USA. It's a dream 25 years in the making. And we're a band that's been 25 years in the making.

Our line up changes every year because members must leave the band when they graduate high school. The graduates are replaced by young new recruits, ensuring this opportunity is shared among as many young girls as possible.

It's the hard work and dedication of all our previous lineups that has culminated in this amazing opportunity to tour the USA. There have been hundreds of previous members of Sweethearts who have graduated with maturity and confidence beyond their years. Many have gone on to pursue careers in music and media.

We will tackle this USA tour with the gusto of our many predecessors who worked so hard to build our reputation in Geelong, Melbourne and Europe. We wouldn’t be here without them.

We want to develop our US fan base and set up a network of US contacts so that future generations of Sweethearts can realise the dream from G-Town to Motown!

We are a not-for-profit band. As this is a promotional tour, we won't be paid for the majority of our gigs. Most venues will give us a meal in return for performing. We have enough funds to cover our flights and insurance, but we need to raise a shortfall of $25,000 to pay for our accommodation and tour bus.

It costs $1,000 for one Sweetheart to have a seat on the tour bus and a bed to sleep in over the 12 day tour.

The total for accommodation and bus hire for 25 Sweethearts members:

$15,000 - Tour bus (fuel, hire of vehicle and driver) for 12 days
$10,000 - Accommodation for 25 band members for 12 days

We fly into Dallas and drive onto Memphis, Nashville, Chicago and Detroit. That's over 2,579 kilometres through the USA.

We won't be headlining big shows or festivals. This will be a tour of hard slog, grass roots touring. We'll be playing small venues and meeting other soul musicians like those from the Stax Academy in Memphis. We'll be playing to crowds who have never heard of us. We'll be laying the foundations for the next generations of Sweethearts to keep going from G-Town to Motown.

If we don't raise $25,000 we would have to take out a loan and pay it back over several years. This would restrict the band's future opportunities in purchasing musical instruments and touring outside of Geelong for quite a while. It would also mean that we can't give our talented musicians the advantageous experience they need to pursue a musical career.

It is important we tour the USA while we have the opportunity and the people to help us get it off the ground: we have to strike while the iron's hot.
