In Life Today - a Short Film
It’s Saturday in Melbourne; a sunny day much like any other. Except that today is the day that Erin is going to change the world. Scientists say that change is inevitable; but Erin doesn’t have time to wait. She’s going to take matters into her own hands.
This is a story about the moment when hopelessness and hope collide.
In Life Today is a comedy about the futility of railing against a system that is never going to change.
IN THE BEGINNING
So where did this all start?
My first real experience as a performer was as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the age of 13. I’ve come a long way since then and have been involved in some amazing stage and screen projects. The more projects I work on and the more stories I'm part of, the more I’m beginning to understand my voice as a storyteller and what, at the end of the day, is really important to me.
I want to tell stories that make people question who/what is good or bad. I want to share the human condition. I want to educate myself and others. I want to make them laugh and leave them feeling like they can achieve anything if they put their minds to it. And I want to feel that way, too.
I attended the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 with a short film, which was amazing, but one of the biggest things I came away with was having broadened my sense of the film industry and the storytelling world that I'm part of. So much so that I decided that I was coming back the following year with a film of my own, in competition!
Which did not happen.
Fast forward to Christmas week 2014.
Having nearly said farewell to the wonderful year that was 2014, I was still frustrated by my inability as an artist to have control over my career, to be creating my own content and to have told a story that was truly my own and have it screened at an international film festival. Or even on my home TV.
For the past 8 months I’d been working on plans for a film that was nowhere near fruition and was looking ahead to the beginning of another year where I felt that, as an artist, I hadn’t really successfully shared the best part of myself with the world.
And out of that frustration and creative misery (yes, dramatic I know) came a wonderful story that I was burning to tell. A story that I feel encapsulates my somewhat lopsided, comic view of society and represents my own personal dreams of being able to affect change where I feel it is most needed.
A year later and I am on the verge of completing my first film as a director, co-producer, writer and actor, and it's pretty damn exciting.
Drum roll.
Welcome to In Life Today.

The Challenges
The film shoot saw a bunch of amazing, creative people come together to pit their talents against time, logistics, pressure and financial constraints to tell this story. However, the challenges are not over!
We are getting close to a complete edit of the film before moving on to the final tasks in post-production and have a pretty tight schedule for the 2016 festival line up and the biggest challenge remaining is getting post finished in time for submission.
Through the generosity and talent of the amazing people in my life we have made it this far and if this project sounds like something you might like to be part of then I would absolutely love to have you come on board and help us realise its creative vision.
I promise that it will be a funny, heartfelt and rewarding journey, and I hope you'll join me.
Thanks!
Lauren
