About K2CLOUD

K2CLOUD brings knitting and crochet into the 21st century through large scale sculpture. It is an interactive transforming installation, using only repurposed paper and plastic.

The installation begins with a Silent White Opening. Using basic colourful materials, we are inviting the public to help transform the space into a brightly coloured room over 10 days. A disco will be held at the completion of the process to celebrate the transformation.

The title of our project references the visible formation of frozen water crystals in the atmosphere – a cloud. In much the same way as why skies are blue, clouds are white because their water crystals are large enough to scatter the light of the seven wavelengths (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet), which combine to produce white light. Our ‘cloud’ will begin white, and over the exhibition period will be transformed to reproduce all the colours of the light spectrum.

Why we are asking for your support

This is the first major exhibition for both of us, and is an exciting learning curve, both creatively and practically.

So ….. we are asking you - dear friend, supporter, lover of the arts - to assist us in covering our costs for basic materials, gallery hire, and promoting our exhibition. We are also hoping to document the process during the transformation of the installation by creating a time-lapse film.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our project, and supporting us in this creative adventure!!

About the Artists

K2CLOUD is brought to you by K2TOG COLLECTIVE: Elizabeth Marpole & Lex Randolph

(K2TOG is a knitting pattern abbreviation for knit 2 together)

Both artists of K2TOG use traditional craft methods in their art practice in the hope of making people aware of the use of contemporary craft as a recognised art-from.

As a predominantly textile and sound artist, Lex will be extending his practice by exploring the new mediums of paper and plastic. He also comes form a community arts and cultural development background, and is passionate about interacting with the community and audience to inform the artistic process.

Elizabeth has experimented with knitted paper and other found material for the past year, now she is ready to exhibit her methods in a large scale sculptures collaborating with Lex to produce an environment that start off as a blank canvas and over time transforms in a crazy hypnotic out of control installation with the help of strangers. Elizabeth has also made paper installations and even preformed in knitted suits protesting both for and against important events that matter within society.

This exhibition will provide both artists an opportunity to develop collaborative processes, as well as have a dedicated space to present this experimental work.
