SeaStar Rock Is Coming to a TV Near You!

South Australia's favourite children's live performance is set to become a TV series. But, just like Surfing Snapping Starfish needs help to rid the sea of plastic bag monsters, we can't do it without you! 

Channel 44 have offered us the unique opportunity to create a SeaStar Rock TV series based on the 18 original songs featured in the live performance and on the CD. To make this dream come true we need to raise funds to hire equipment, animators, set creators, and crew - all local of course.

Whilst we're getting local businesses on board to help with the larger costs, we're giving individuals and families the opportunity to be part of this exciting project too. In exchange for just a little bit of pocket money we'll send you a SeaStar Rock activity book, CD,  or Family Pack to get you ready and raring to dance and sing along when the show hits your screen!



 
More About SeaStar Rock

The colourful characters of the SeaStar Rock world take children on a journey through the SeaStar Seas, dancing to catchy tunes, playing fun games, and learning about keeping our seas safe and clean. Favourites include playing air guitar with Supreme Stingray, soaring over the oceans with the Famous Flying Penguins, and searching for the ever-elusive Sid the Squid.  

SeaStar Rock live shows opened to sell-out crowds at the Garden of Unearthly Delights at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2015, we've gone on to play at schools and venues all across the state. The Advertiser even listed us as one of their 'Top five things to do with kids'! 

The original CD on which the live show is based features 18 songs all written and performed by SeaStar Rock visionary, Lucy Rasheed. From the bluesy beats of Big Blue Boppin' Whale to the danecfloor filler Jelly Fish Fizzies, it is these beautifully crafted songs underpin the entire SeaStar Rock experience and set it apart from other children's performances: parents love the songs as much as the kids do!

All 100% locally written, created, produced, and cast, SeaStar Rock is the most exciting thing to come out of Adelaide since Peter Combe!

 Bringing SeaStar To The Screen

The possibilities for bringing the SeaStar Rock world to life through the medium of TV are endless. Our songs, games and dances will benefit from extra special sets, costumes, props and animations, and kids won't have to wait for a live show to explore the SeaStar seas.

The series will consist of 6 episodes. Each will run for 10 minutes and will feature multiple characters and songs in an underwater adventure. 

Highlights will include dancing the cha cha with Chino Crabclaw, tap dancing with Terrence the Turtle, and riding the waves with Surfing Snapping Starfish as he saves the seas from plastic bag monsters! Big Blue Bopping Whale will be bouncing at the Underwater Fish Cafe, whilst Harriet Hammershark gives her ‘Shark Grin’ tips at the Icy Pole Studios.

Viewers will join in with games like Seaweed Shelter and Wally and Polly’s Orders all the while helping to navigate the sustainability of the oceans.

Making SeaStar Come To Life

The episodes will take place in the five SeaStar Rock locations which are: The Igloo Information Centre, Wally the Walrus’s Ship, The Underwater Fish Café, Seaweed Shelters and the Dream Stone Cave. There will be a mixture of live set, animation and lighting to recreate this SeaStar Rock world at ABC’s Studios.


The colourful array of SeaStar Rock characters include The Famous Flying Penguins- Kiki, Paolo and Stamp, Daphne Dolphin, Mr Fishy Whippy Seal, and Supreme Stingray. The locally based actors bring these quirky personalities to life through their dynamic costumes, make-up, songs and dance moves! 



 
Current Audience and Media

SeaStar Rock debuted at the Garden of Unearthly Delights, Adelaide Fringe 2015 and have since been performing
to thousands of children via school bookings and public performances including: Whale Time, Shedley Theatre,
Marion Cultural Centre, Published ArtHouse, Pete’s Ridge and the Queen Adelaide Club. This series allows us to reach the broader South Australian community and further afield through digital mediums. Circulation of CDs has already brought SeaStar Rock to a interstate audience, and the TV series is set to be a hit Australia-wide, with hopes to go international. 

We are extremely excited to be working with talented Channel 44 Producer Lauren Hillman who has extensive experience at Channel 9, ABC and Nova Radio. She has a multitude of awards to her name and knows how to adapt SeaStar Rock to be the best TV show it can be. Channel 44, in the ABC building, is providing resourcing including studio space and local production talent to bring this series to fruition.

Marine Conservation is an important issue which is addressed throughout the SeaStar Rock series. Your contribution will go directly to hiring the ABC Studios, equipment, and wonderfully talented local crew. For as little as $15 you will not only get some special SeaStar Rock merchandise, you'll get that warm fuzzy glow of knowing that you've done something good for local kids, the local arts scene, some hard-working South Aussie talent, and, of course, the environment!

The totaly cost to produce this series is $20 000. This Pozible campaign is for individuals who share and support our dream, who have more use for a family entertainment pack rather than an advertising package.
