The Perception Experiments
Frankie Snowdon and Madeleine Krenek are undertaking a three week development for a new dance work based in Alice Springs, NT, titled "The Perception Experiments". Over the three weeks Frankie and Madeleine will be working with two additional dancers, Tara Samaya and Kelly Beneforti, lighting designer Ben Cisterne and sound designer Darcy Davis.
The Perception Experiments is primarily an interrogation of perceptions of time and space through examining form and content. TPE challenges the everyday experience of the physical world, and, by a provocative sensorial immersion, expectations of what constitutes dance performance. Obsessions with particle theory, acts of disappearing, the realm of deep imagination and salt have brought us to this place, and ultimately, we're aiming to create an immersive performance experience, experimenting with performer/audience proximity, manipulation of time and space perception through light and sound and various ways, while unrelentingly challenging how we watch, what we think we see, and how manipulating the environment effects this.
THE BIT WHERE WE NEED YOU MOST
We are so excited to be doing this work in the desert, in one of the most unrelenting and inspiring geographical locations, surrounded by a plethora of equally describable art makers and enthusiasts; but funding independent dance work is difficult, and bringing artists into the Northern Territory to undertake exciting new endeavours is expensive. So even though talking about money is nowhere near as enjoyable as waxing lyrical about all the possibilities apparent when setting out on another artistic adventure, we need to.
We are fortunate that the project is receiving funding from Arts NT, however in order to cover travel for visiting artists, studio hire, and a small amount of equipment, we're reaching out to the good people of the globe, near and far, to throw whatever you can spare toward the sunburnt centre of the country so we can max out the 3 weeks we have to really get this multi sensory trip of a dance adventure off the ground.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The Challenges
BUT...
We have determination, experience and a really good feeling in the pits of our tummies about doing this work, here, now. AND with your help, there's absolutely no reason the first development of The Perception Experiments isn't going to set us up to continue on this desert dancing crusade.
