We all agree that encouraging toddlers to read is crucial for their development, but why are many early childhood books so dreary, conservative and mind-numbingly boring?

'My First 100 Bogan Words' guarantees that reading books to toddlers will always be a grand and mighty adventure. (as reading should be).

After years spent reading countless 'Politically Correct American' picture books to his kids (complete with words like 'baseball', 'Mom', and  'yellow school bus'...blergh!), Malcolm decided it was time someone wrote a real, engaging, Australian book that would appeal to both kids and adults alike, regardless of one's 'bogan' heritage.

'My First 100 Bogan Words' celebrates our unique Australian history and language with words like 'Flanno', 'Chiko Roll' and 'Acca Dacca' - words that inexplicably do not appear in any early learning curriculum...inconceivable!

Incorporating everyday and occasionally absurd 'bogan' words and pictures that everyone will connect with (even Mal's elderly mum knew most of them), 'My First 100 Bogan Words' is a guaranteed conversation starter. Granted, some of the content will require adults to think quickly and improvise but hey, that's what reading to children is all about...using your imagination!

So Malcolm and Alex wish to ask you a few simple questions:

Do you have toddlers of your own?   If so, are the books they are reading adequately preparing them for the wondrous, diverse and occasionally 'bogan' world ahead?


Do you have nieces/nephews/grandchildren who may delight in such an 'awesome' book?


Maybe you don't wish to have kids at all but simply want to get involved with this project cause it sounds cool?


If you answered "YES" to any of these questions then we would love to hear from you.

In the fullness of time, Malcolm and Alex believe this book will bring people together (okay, that's unlikely), achieve world peace (bollocks), inspire children to greatness (maybe), make adults laugh out loud (yes that bit's true), and celebrate all things BOGAN (absolutely).

All funds are being put into the printing and shipping costs for 2000 books, and will be available through select retail outlets around Australia and on http://www.malcolmdix.com

If the response is overwhelming, we would also like to expand our publicity campaign, reach more retail outlets and look at turning the book into a mighty Bogan E-book.

Finally, $1 dollar from every book sold will go to 'The Fathering Project.' (www.thefatheringproject.org). This is an organisation that encourages men to become the best fathers/stepfathers and role models they can be. They also educate the wider community about the importance of having good male role models in all aspects of society. They do amazing work and have a heap of resources available so please check them out.
