About Us and the Project

Arabella is a highly visual and innovative live performance created by multi-disciplinary Melbourne artists Malia Walsh(Circus Trick Tease), Tim Tropp(Klezinski), Hamish Fletcher(Men of Steel/Giggle and Hoot) and Lauren Cruickshank(theatre/dance). 

The work revolves around a giant inhabitable puppet which is a collection of Arabella's emotional baggage. This collection will come to life, telling stories of her past through shadow puppetry, dance, circus and inflatables. The puppet will have a transformational ability to provide a visually dynamic backdrop that will change and transform with the story.

Arabella is about memories and things in our life which you hide behind. Imagine if those things came to life?

Why we need your support

We have an incredible team of diverse artists who have created excellent work in their own professions, to have such a collaboration is really quite exciting. Arabella's crew are willing and wanting to put in their time and energy into creating a visually engaging work that pushes boundaries and delights audiences. The Melbourne Fringe Festival is the perfect platform to launch new work from and we are certain this season will lay a strong foundation to create work for independent artists for years to come. 

Fringe festivals world wide are the lauching pad for new and contemporary art to be realised and a platform for experimental work. Sadly there is minimal funding available for fringe art. Without Fringe, art and theatre could stay stagnent and new concepts would never meet the stage... total tragedy!

We believe we have an incredible show and we would love our work to be realised but making giant puppets is expensive. We would be so very grateful if you could help us build a monster.

Your donation will assist with

- Materials to build the giant puppet, ie; fabrics (lots of fabric), metal, wood, wading, suitcases, boxes, glues, etc

- Materials for costuming.

- Cost of rehearsal room.

- Cost of workshop for build.

What we've done already

We have already donated many (so many) hours into our first development. Over the last 16 months we have fine tuned the script and made models of all the puppets. 

We have a Mentor and an Outside Eye involved to ensure our project is bloody amazing.

We are covering all the media and marketing costs for the season.

We are about to lock ourselves in a studio for 6 weeks straight to make this happen.

Rewards

In regards to generous pledges we are offering you x2 tickets to our opening weekend... your choice of the 28th, 29th or 30th of Sep. Sorry there aren't more places but we get limited complimentary tickets. Email us the date you want 1 week prior to the show and your tickets will be waiting at the box office.

One on one classes will be run when ever you choose, up to 6 months from now. We will provide a studio and 1 hour of awesome learning. For more information on who you choose to learn from please see our bio's below.
