Workshop: Oil Painting
This workshop covers the basics of oil painting, and is also suitable for advanced oil painters. Sunday 18 Sept, 10am - 3pm, Victorian Artists Society for 18+. Workshop: Sculpture
Make a portrait or decorative head in relief with Gray Nicol. Sun 18 Dec 10am - 3pm at the VAS. The class suits beginners and those with some experience in clay modelling. Clay will be supplied, bring one or two modelling tools & a hand towel or buy on the day. Gray has worked in London doing traditional architectural carving and sculpture and is an experienced teacher.
Workshop: Pastel Portrait
In this one day workshop you will find out how to make choices that work, as Barbara McManus imparts ten pastel clues. Barbara teaches students at all levels of experience and encourages enthusiasm for their chosen medium. Her method is based on tonal realism. In simple terms, this is the ability to analyse what you see by using comparison. Is it lighter, darker, warmer, cooler etc. Saturday 2 July from 10am - 3pm at the Victorian Artists Society. 18+
Workshop: Watercolour
This one-day workshop will give you the opportunity to create a step by step painting of a rural scene, exploring the textural aspects of Foreground, Trees and a Miner’s Cottage. Julian Bruere is a popular teacher and demonstrator with the VAS. He is also a member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society & the Australian Watercolour Institute. This promises to be a refreshing and stimulating workshop held at the Victorian Artists Society on Thursday 7 July from 10am - 3pm. 18 years + only.

Mike is an exhibiting member of VAS, a member of the VAS Council and was VAS Sculptor of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Mike’s sculpture has been exhibited at VAS since 2013 and has been shown in the Association of Sculptors Victoria annual and Herring Island exhibitions.

Katherine will spend several hours photographing your pet (within two hours of Melbourne), a copy of photos on CD, and an A3 drawing of your pet will be provided. Katherine Lewis neѐ Chouliaras, is an artist with many years’ of experience in painting and drawing. Her signature art are her abstracts. She also engages in detailed drawings and paintings of animals and nature.

In 1987 Bettina won the NSW Premier’s Literary Award for the children’s book ‘A rabbit named Harris’ and has illustrated 15 Australia Post stamps and 8 stamps for the United Nations in New York. Bettina has tutored for Art tours in France and has exhibited in many art shows.

In 2005 Paul was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for “Service to the Visual Arts as a painter and lecturer”.

House or Garden painted
Have your house or garden painted by Annie Finkelde. Annie is a teacher at the Victorian Artists Society. Her aim is to capture the essence of the place and maintaining the the scene. On request, Annie can integrate the artwork into its proposed setting by weaving in an appropriate selection of component colour and tone of the room. Elaine joined Waverley Arts Society in 1977 and attended Carol Boothman’s classes. Elaine has been honoured with numerous awards for her paintings.

But painting has always been her passion. Since becoming a student at the Victorian Artists Society, she really started to explore and develop her own style as an artist. Thanks to the guidance of acclaimed Melbourne artists and teachers Ray Hewitt and Lee Machelak, she continues to grow and find her voice.

She is particularly drawn to the part that Light plays in our world. 'It does not just create effects but draws out the emotional atmosphere that is inherent in life'. As an artist, she has produced both Modern contemporary works as well as Landscapes.

Have your pet drawn by Linda Weil! Linda will spend several hours photographing your pet (within two hours of Melbourne), a copy of photos on CD, and an A3 drawing of your pet in Pastel pencils will be provided. Linda Weil is a professional artist with over 30 years’ experience in drawing and illustration. She has authored and illustrated ‘How to Draw Lifelike Animals’ and co-authored ‘The Art of Drawing Animals’, as well as creating unique drawings promoting Derwent pencils.
