I've walked a lot in the mountains in Iceland. And as you come to a new valley, as you come to a new landscape, you have a certain view. If you stand still, the landscape doesn't necessarily tell you how big it is. It doesn't really tell you what you're looking at. The moment you start to move the mountain starts to move.

Hello. I am Margaret Lloyd, a visual artist from Adelaide. I have been offered an artist residency on the Icelandic island of Hrisey, in January 2014. I have already paid for my accommodation, and have saved up enough money to eat, create artwork, and get around the island. I just need to get there.
This is where you come in. I still need the funds to fly to London, fly to Reykjavik, take a bus around Iceland to Akureyri, and take a ferry out to the island of Hrisey. From the ferry dock I can catch one of the island’s tractor taxis.

Hrisey in January is cold and dark. Daylight lasts for five hours. Temperatures average -3 degrees Celcius, with an added wind chill. Once there, I will be documenting the landscape and experiencing it firsthand. I am expanding my current work on ‘the body as landscape’ to research ‘the body interacting with physical landscape’. I’m also going to go inside a glacier, take a ferry out into the Artic Circle, see the Northern Lights, visit several of Iceland’s contemporary art galleries, and create a body of work. This work will be exhibited after the residency, in the gallery space at Gamli Skoli (see: top image of a building covered in snow).

My Pozible funds will cover my journey from Adelaide to Hrisey. This residency is a chance for me to be inspired, do field research, and collaborate with international artists. The help you give me will be crucial in reaching the next step in my career as an artist.
