Matt D'Penguin

Who is this man? This man is Matt D'Penguin, currently stranded in Clowntown (Caloundra) on the east coast of Australia. Sponsor Matt D'Penguin to return to the desert and reunite with his band, Silver Bullet Rollers, in a glorious week of creative development/rehearsal and preparation for upcoming desert festival, Wide Open Space. 

Funds will go towards travel, accom, venue/equipment hire and artist fee for creative development of songs for Matt D'Penguin and Silver Bullet Rollers.

We will spend a week rehearsing in a band camp intensive at a venue in Alice Springs, the outcome of which will be new songs, a fully rocking set plus a themed costume aesthetic for performance and promotional purposes. At this stage we are looking at commando/disco meets post apocalyptic humpy/mad max/tank girl style.

The rollers formed in 2010 around the same time the local roller derby, Malice Springs was created. The intention was to be a rockin' roller derby party band and so we supported Malice Springs in a few fundraisers to help get them on their skates. We soon realised Silver Bullet Rollers had a life of its own and we began writing songs based on the local influences of desert surf guitar mashed up with our own unique world view of living in Alice Springs and making music for the pure awesome FUN of it.

The band consists of Matt D'Penguin (vocals/guitar/bass); Steph Harrison (vocals/bass/guitar) and Jack Batty (drums/good looks). While we have been graced with spontaneous horn sections for the past few gigs, we have recruited a new local to Alice Springs, Alex who plays sax. He has awesome hair. He also plays sax very well.

Recently Steph Harrison won a songwriting competition for the Northern Territory anthem and it is with great pride we play a punk rendition of the Territory Anthem, 'Stand as one'. Silver Bullet Rollers, REPREZENT!

Jack Batty stepped up to the plate and purchased a very nice red 80's drum kit. Well done Jack.

While Matt D'Penguin relocated to the east-coast for parenting duties, he, Jack and Steph realised very quickly they could not just disband the band because of something as small as distance, i mean, it's only a few hours on the plane right? So off to the desert it is for Matt D'Penguin!

Jack and Steph are also parents of the recently arrived boy child by the name of TANAMI who was born the same week Steph was notified of her success in winning the Territory Anthem comp. He will one day be our band manager and is our magic mascot. You might see him at Wide Open Space moshing on stage with his baby disco earmuffs on.

Interestingly enough, Alex, our new sax player, is also a parent. I see a pattern here. Big up's to us parents who parent and play!
