'Be Nice' is a Brisbane based short film written and directed by Jessica Magro and produced by Matt Smith. After both Matt and Jess graduated from QPIX last year working together on various film projects, they are teaming up again to bring this comedic drama to life.

From the Director:
’Be Nice’ tells the story of an aggressive 50 year old man that gets taught a lesson by a stranger over the phone.

The story came about when I began working at a call centre early this year after realising the broke filmmaker life wasn’t sufficient enough in my 21st year. It wasn’t until working this job that I realised how much abuse cold callers have to deal with on a daily basis. Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand both sides of the telephone, but the message of this film is clear. Regardless of whether you know the person or not, face to face or over the phone, there is always room to be nice. Everyone has a choice and in the case of main character Bruce, he chooses to be rude resulting in a valuable lesson learnt.
‘Be Nice’ is not only a glimpse of what it’s like to be a cold caller on the other end of the phone, but a reflection on society’s view on telemarketing in general, as well as a reminder that it doesn’t take much to simply be nice.

I hope to make all telemarketers around Australia proud with this short, supporting what we do for a living and giving the daily life of a cold caller justice.

I also hope to change the views of those that bluntly hate telemarketing calls. No matter who is on the end of that phone, please take a moment to realise they are human too.

This short film will be my directorial debut and I thank everyone who has continued to show their support. It means more to me than anything else in the world and I cannot wait to bring this story to life!

How The Funds Will Be Used

Majority of this film will be self funded by the producer and director but unfortunately extra assistance is required to cover additional filmmaking costs such as equipment hire, insurance, post production fees and various other costs that naturally arise.

The Challenges

Trying to fund a short film from scratch is no easy feat.

We are hoping to raise the appropriate funds to create 'Be Nice' and give back to our fellow film-makers as much as possible by hiring the best equipment and complimenting their hard work with professional post production work.

Thanks!
