Can you help with our Greens campaign in Indi?

Jenny O'Connor is the Greens candidate in Indi in North East Victoria, Australia. Jenny is a strong, experienced Greens candidate and a tireless worker for the community, and she's again putting in a fantastic effort to get the Greens message out there.

Jenny is up against Sophie Mirabella and her ultra-conservative policies and is putting a powerful case for the Greens' humane, costed policies. She has particularly championed the Greens' positions on asylum seekers, climate change and a more equitable society. As a true local candidate who has built strong networks in Indi over the past 10 years Jenny truly knows the needs of local people.

We all want to see Indi become a marginal seat, and to achieve better representation for our communities.

To achieve these goals we now need to support Jenny's campaign financially, and to volunteer to cover the pre-polling and election day polling booths.

As Greens, our resources are small, but our vision and goodwill are huge. We don’t get massive donations from big business or from vested interests so our campaign success is based on our grass roots donations and the work of our members and supporters.

Jenny is doing her best to connect with as many voters as she can across this vast electorate. She is doing this at public forums, through frequent media exposure, by emailed bulletins to our supporters, and through social media. To help us get the message out further we need donations and volunteers. And with only 3 weeks to go we need to move quickly.

Donations

A donation of $25 (or whatever you can afford) will help us achieve this. (Donations are tax-deductible).

We hope to raise a minimum of $1000, but can have a much bigger impact with up to $4000.

About political donations

It is important to understand some of the rules on political donations

Donations made up to election day (September 7th) are tax deductible.

Political donations are tax deductible for individuals up to the limit of $1500 in any given financial year.

People or organisations who make donations over $12,400 must lodge a donor return to the Australian Electoral Commission.

The Challenges

There are no real risks with what we are trying to do. We will only spend the money we are given and we CAN spend the money we are given. When the Liberal candidate for Indi is expected to spend over $100,000 and one of the independent candidate has raised over $80,000, the modest funds we seek can clearly be spent and well spent.

We are comfortable having a smaller budget. There is something wrong with spending vast amounts of money on a campaign in an electorate that has many people on low wages. We just want the money needed to do a good job, ethically and affordably.

All donations up to $1500 are tax deductible if the donation is made up to election day (7th September 2013). Just make sure you ask for a receipt from [email protected] !
