Hi, we’re (L to R in the pic above) Michael, Sam & Matthew of Echotide. We're a cinematic, post rock band from Brisbane, Australia. We like reverb, probably a little too much.

Way back in 2012, we released our first album 'as our floodlights gave way to dawn'. We worked really hard on it, and put it out for free through Bandcamp in a digital format. "...floodlights" was generally pretty well received by reviewers and critics, but its massive reach surprised us. We racked up 50,000+ streams between our Bandcamp and Youtube accounts, we've seen our 10 minute, instrumental tracks played on Australian national radio station Triple J, and on independent and internet radio around the world. We've had our name tossed around in the same sentences as Australian post rock luminaries like sleepmakeswaves, Meniscus and Dumbsaint. (...who we love. <3 ). Our keyboardist Matt was even asked to guest on and remix Dumbsaint's track 'The Auteur'. And finally, our little album has been downloaded all over the world from Brisbane to Brasil to Bratislava. Almost ten thousand times over.

Suddenly we went from being a band nobody had heard of, who'd played fewer than 10 shows, to a band with a tiny, but impassioned, worldwide audience.

After a few years working on our other projects (hazards of swimming naked, Trails, agrammeofsoma and the now defunct Arcane) in 2015 we started to work on a follow up record called 'Into The Half Light', which we’ve just finished. We took our time, and made the record we wanted to make. It’s a new, vibrant, washy, loud, cinematic affair. It (quite literally) follows on from '...floodlights', but it’s a (slightly) more concise and punchy album than the more atmospheric and meandering first album. It's seven tracks, and has a run time of an hour.

Where '...floodlights' is a beloved first child, 'Into The Half Light' is something else entirely. It's got a bold sound, with wider shifts in dynamics than anything we've done in the past. To celebrate the release of 'Into The Half Light', we wanted to do something special for our fans, old and new.

As we wanted to release this album in a physical format, we also wanted to take the opportunity to address the several hundred people over the past 5 years who've contacted us asking if 'as our floodlights gave way to dawn' would ever see a physical release. To those people, we can finally say: "Yes, it will. Right now"


So, this is a pre-order campaign for two albums. One old, one new. For the first time, 2017's 'Into The Half Light' will be made available to the public, and 2012’s 'as our floodlights gave way to dawn' will finally see a physical release, which for us is hugely exciting.  We have also for the first time in our history printed a super limited edition T shirt design which is available exclusively through this campaign, once they're gone, they're gone. There are autographed copies (albums will be signed by both incarnations of Echotide) available. There's a lot more cool stuff for sale on this page, welcome to the party, pal. 

The audio of both "Into The Half Light" and (obviously) "as our floodlights gave way to dawn" is finished. The new album was recorded by Michael Gagen, Matt Martin and Max Bliesner. It was edited by Michael, Matt and Sam Mead and was mixed by Michael and Chris Lait. It was mastered at Turtlerock Mastering, Australia.

Matt and Michael have finalised the artwork for Into The Half Light and revisted the artwork for "...floodlights" to design two simple and beautiful looking single gatefolds for each album, and the whole thing is in the chamber and ready for release. 

These costs; studio time, working with two seperate external engineers, the mastering and the art design and formatting have already been covered and paid.

One track from Into The Half Light, "her back to the sun" alongside a film clip (also entirely paid for by us) went live on YouTube yesterday, check out the link above. 

This preorder campaign is for album production costs and T shirt production costs only. We are looking to press both albums, print the tees, post them all out to our patrons and to cover the associated costs that will go along with the new album's online marketing and licensing.

If we do not make our $3500 goal, we will have to re-evaluate the physical release of the floodlights album, put it on the shelf for now and focus our attention on giving "Into The Half Light" the proper release we feel it deserves.
