Every Second is a brand new Australian play by renowned playwright Vanessa Bates. The play will have it's world premiere at the Darlinghurst Theatre Company's new home The Eternity Playhouse from 27th June - 27 July 2014.

This production brings back together Michael Sieders and Shannon Murphy for their second collaboration as Producer and Director, respectively, to present a Vanessa Bates play. We were approached by Darlinghurst Theatre Company to produce a play in the inaugural season at the beginning of 2013 and immediately we knew we wanted to do a another Vanessa Bates play.

Vanessa's work is extremely special, we feel it connects to audiences in a very fundamentally human way. Through extremely well written characters, Vanessa is able to encapsulate slices of the human experience that are funny, dark, powerful but ultimately truthful.

Every Second is a play about a very natural human emotion, LOVE; which after sexual intercourse, can lead to a very natural human creation, a BABY…or not.

The play centres around two couples, Bill, Jen, Meg and Tim. They are in long-term relationships and have been very much in love and are ready to be parents, or are they? Is anyone ever really ready? They think they want to be parents and that the time is right but the sperm/egg connection is not working. One couple tries Chinese Herbs the other tries IVF.

This is the story of the unrequited love for a child that will not come. Can a couple survive with the knowledge that their shared goal might be unobtainable? ‘How could there not be a baby? With all that love?’.

Who's Involved

The funds raised by this Pozible campaign go directly to the production costs. They will be used to build the set, source and make costumes, help to document the show (video and photography) and help us spread the word with some additional marketing.

The aim is to cover our production costs both through crowd funding as well as through private sponsorship. By doing so all profits can go toward the future life of the show.

Like any independent production in Sydney, or Australia for that fact, the major challenge is raising the funds to stage the show. Funding is extremely competitive and in short supply for projects of this nature. So we turn to friends, family and the wider population to help raise the funds necessary to mount a truly spectacular production.

As a rule, it is better to do something extremely well than do it half arsed, and all the productions that we produce are of the highest quality, and high quality is not cheap. So this is the major challenge that faces this production.
