In celebration of our 25th anniversary Melbourne chamber choir
Ensemble Gombert will be touring internationally in September and October 2015. We are taking Australia’s fine music culture to Germany, the Czech Republic, France and Switzerland, and showcasing Australian vocal talent and compositions.
Highlights of our 20-day tour include appearances at both the Thomaskirche and Nikolaikirche in Leipzig; the Frauenkirche in Dresden; Strasbourg Cathedral; and St Bartholomew’s Cathedral in Pilsen, the European Capital of Culture for 2015. You can read the full itinerary
on our website.
Our concerts will feature Ensemble Gombert’s core repertoire of High Renaissance polyphony, plus contemporary music by Australian composer, Calvin Bowman.
About Ensemble Gombert
Ensemble Gombert is Melbourne’s outstanding chamber choir, noted for pure intonation and historic approach to choral sound and style.
The Ensemble’s subscription concerts are broadcast regularly on ABC Classic FM, and we have recorded several CDs. Ensemble Gombert appears frequently at festivals across Australia, and has toured to North America (2009) and twice to Europe (2004 and 2006).
Ensemble Gombert was founded by John O’Donnell in 1990. John is an internationally renowned keyboard artist, choral conductor and musicologist. As a keyboard performer he tours Europe regularly, and is the first person ever to perform Bach’s complete keyboard works in public.
A new stretch target: $3000
Wow! We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters. We
set a modest target of $2000 based on hopeful estimates of ticket sales
from our overseas concerts.
And we got there in less than a week! We have now set a stretch target of $3000 to help ensure that our tour is successful.
If
we reach this new target we can focus more on performing and worry less
about meeting ticket sales targets. Any extra money we raise here means
less we need to raise from other sources or from additional
contributions by touring choristers.
We are not depending on your sole support. Each chorister has purchased their own airfare and will contribute to the shared tour costs. We have a fundraising budget that will help us to meet those costs, including:
• Hire of St Thomas’s Church in Strasbourg: $280
• Hire of Nikolaikirche in Leipzig: $1,700
• 20 days of bus hire for each chorister: $470
Ensemble Gombert is a registered gift-deductible recipient, and all donations above $2 are fully tax-deductible. All donations made to the Ensemble Gombert Fund entirely go to support the artistic aims of our organisation. No donations are ever used for administrative costs, or distributed to the members.
Please support our tour by pledging some money for a small reward or by making a tax-deductible donation. Your support will be helping to promote Australia and its place on the world-wide fine music stage.
