SYNOPSIS
SHORT DRAMA: Breath is a story of a man trying to right the wrongs of his past, and be there for his child, when his father was never there for him.
PLOT OUTLINE
A man (Michael) lies on an operating table awaiting a lung transplant. As he succumbs to the anaesthesia, his mind dips into the recesses of his memories, and lingers on the experiences he shared fishing with his father as a young boy. As the events of these memories parallel the procedure going on in the operating theatre – a caught fish gasping for breath; the man unable to breathe – it is revealed that the transplant is not for the man, but rather from the man to his young daughter. When complications arise in the procedure, the man realises that in order to summon the strength needed to survive this dangerous operation and return to his daughter, he must first make sense of his own lost relationship with his father.

Ben Dickinson is a graduate of the University of Technology’s Media Arts & Production degree. He has worked as an Assistant to the Creative and Managing Directors of the award winning Fox Studios-based company Animal Logic, where he was a part of such films as Happy Feet, 300 and Where The Wild Things Are. Since then Ben has worked in the Camera Department on renowned Australian Film & Television projects including Burning Man, Not Suitable For Children, the Jack Irish telemovies and the second series of ABC’s Rake.

Michael Horvath joined the Australian film industry in 2006, after completing a Diploma in 16mm Film Production from Sydney Film School. Since then, Michael has worked in various production roles on over twenty one feature and television projects around Australia, including such films as; Paradise Lost, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Australia, Happy Feet 2, Tomorrow, When The War Began, and many more. Michael's most recent accomplishment, was working as the expedition logistics co-ordinator, on James Cameron's historic Deepsea Challenge Dive. Through his FINEST HOUR COMPANY production banner, Michael is currently developing several international television and feature film projects, while presently focusing on producing high quality short films.
MATTHEW BOUGHEN
CO-PRODUCER
Matt Boughen is a Writer, Producer and Director across both TV and Film. Most recently he built and ran a live-to-air studio for Omnilab Media and Telstra, producing 110x2 hour live programs, five nights a week. Prior to that, Matt worked as the Series Producer for Ambience Entertainment and an EPK Director for Omnilab Media on two of their films ‘Tomorrow, When the War Began’ and ‘Dying Breed’. He has produced everything from ‘P’ classified content, to major live broadcast events and was a top 15 finalist in the 2010 Movie Extra WebFest.
PAUL SHAKESHAFT
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Paul is a well renowned 1st Assistant Camera technician within the Australian Film Industry. His credits include films such as “Superman Returns” “Burning Man” “Wolverine” “The Sapphires" and more recently "The Railway Man". Paul as been guiding the Breath team over the past two years of development, helping to create a remarkable visual style that will compliment Ben's vision.
LIVIA RUBIOLINI
PRODUCTION DESIGNER
Livia Rubiolini is a Production Designer who has worked on many short films over the past 3 years. While studying at Sydney Film School, she has covered a range of Art Department roles and was a work experience attachment on Underbelly and the mini-series Devil's Dust. Livia strives for authenticity and works towards helping the director's vision come to fruition. She is very excited to be working on Breath and looks forward to creating the world Ben has imagined.
