BOOM @ The Stables/Meat Market and PLATFORM's 18th birthday.
PLATFORM, in collaboration with a number of young and emerging artists including The Ribcage Collective and Sophia Constantine & Niki Shi, will use the space to workshop, rehearse and celebrate youth theatre practice via a number of showings and our 18th birthday party between August 18-21. And we invite you to join us for the celebrations!
PLATFORM sadly has to close down at the end of August 2016 due to funding cuts but we will go out with a bang! This event will be a space where all past and present participants in Platform can come together to celebrate their history with the company and will allow us to have a chance to thank all those who have been involved. Over the years, PLATFORM has ushered through a large group of young and emerging artists, many of whom now work professionally in the arts, and has received great reviews, large audiences and a number of awards.
We have some AMAZING rewards to thank you for your support, including doubles passes to Melbourne Theatre Company, Girls on Film Festival, Cherchez la Femme, The Butterfly Club, Ilbijerri Theatre, Red Stitch Actors Theatre, a year long online subscription to Kill Your Darlings, original artworks by Sandra Chui and Jara Gillick-Lewis (examples of artworks are on the right) and signed copies of "Love" by Patricia Cornelius and "Barracuda" and "Merciless Gods" by Christos Tsiolkas!
BOOM @ The Stables – we look forward to seeing you all there!
How The Funds Will Be Used
The Meat Market have been super wonderful in donating the space to us. Yet we still have many other costs involved to get this event looking amazing, including staffing costs, hiring security, catering/drinks and Pozible fees.
In a simple breakdown, our funds will be spent the following way:
Accessible toilet hire: $450
City of Melbourne costs (venue staff/cleaning): $1200
Security: $300
Catering/drinks: $400
Pozible fees: $150
Any extra money made will go towards helping us create an archive of the company's history and modifying its online presence.
The Challenges
To put it simply, it's getting increasingly hard to support youth arts practice. BOOM @ The Stables will support and encourage young and emerging artists, as well as support the belief that youth theatre is an important part of the Australian theatre scene. Despite the challenges, we strongly believe that this is a sector that needs to be recognised and your support will help keep this fight alive, even after PLATFORM closes down.
