ARADALE

Our project is a narrative film set in the now closed psychiatric facility 'Aradale' located in Ararat, Victoria. It is a psychological horror film with elements of the supernatural and examines historical themes dealing with mental illness and the perception of reality.

‘ARADALE’   Supernatural Horror Feature  (90 min)

We have secured the location and now seek to raise a minimum of $10,000 to make the movie a reality.

The majority of the funds raised go directly to catering, accommodation and taking care of the cast and crew during the production. The remaining funds go to prop requirements, costume and make up. The movie will be shot using cinema level RED MX digital camera equipment provided by Mystical Guides Pty Ltd with the goal of theatrical exhibition.

" Why should I spend my hard earned cash supporting the movie ARADALE? What’s so special about ARADALE? "

I’ve yet to come across a person who has gone to the Aradale Mental Asylum and not had the place impact them is some profound way or come back with eerie stories to tell! The place is unique in many respects but you will need to personally go there to see what I mean!…In part we are using Aradale as a backdrop to our story and in part we are telling the story of Aradale. Either way ARADALE is a movie that we believe will entertain, shock and challenge the way you think about life, the afterlife and the journey in between.

" You’re a professional production company so why do you need crowdfunding? Can’t you just get a government film grant, private investors or take out a business loan? "

The simple answer is yes, however we prefer to involve the community at large and produce programs based on direct feedback, not programs that are guided by grant criteria or investor / business interests. Moreover, the funds we raise through crowdfunding are primarily to look after our cast and crew and for prop, costume and makeup requirements. We run a tight ship so every dollar will be made to count in the final result!

" Don’t movies cost millions of dollars to produce and involve large cast and crews? How can you produce a project of this nature for so little money? "

A production infrastructure has been set up over the past couple of years that involves centralising the production ‘in house’ so as to make it affordable while maintaining quality. We also get a lot of generous support from the local filmmakers and the community.

" What is so special about this RED MX digital camera? Is the camera painted red? "

Actually the only thing that is painted red on the camera is the camera logo “RED”. RED is the name of a highly innovative and relatively new camera company that produces cameras that have 5 times the resolution of regular high definition cameras. These cameras are used extensively for music videos, TV commercials and feature films. Some examples of feature films that were shot recently on the RED MX camera are: The Social Network, Pirates of the Caribbean, Contagion, Insidious and Red Dog.

" How will your Movie benefit Australia? "

Our movie is a 100% local production and will involve local talent, themes, history and locations. Please see the description of the program for more information.

" Tell us a little more about your company? "

The company was set up in 2006 as a vehicle for a TV show pilot called Mystical Guides. In 2007 we produced 2 shows, Mystical Guides and Haunted Australia. Our series Haunted Australia has been on air around Australia in re-runs for over 5 years and is one of the most re-run Australian made shows in recent history.

The company is presently set up to handle film and television projects and provides production services to the film industry. It is based in a 450sqm production studio in Brunswick, owns extensive production equipment and is industry networked.  In the past 18 months we have provided production services to nearly 100 projects, including music videos for acts like the Rogue Traders and Cassette Kids, as well as short and feature films, promos and corporates.

" How can we support the project? "

By becoming involved! We appreciate any support you give us. More importantly you should know that your contribution will go directly to supporting the local film industry as well as our local history and interests.

" What are you planning to do with the film when it is finished? "

The film is being shot and edited at a cinema level with the goal of a cinema release. Once the film is finished we will be entering it into local and international festivals and exploring available distribution avenues.

We do not necessarily believe that we should be ‘charging’ people who appear in the production (as opposed to paying them).
