THE PROJECT:
Thin Air is a short drama that deals with the themes of borderline abuse, power and manipulation but is ultimately a story of relying on one’s instincts when there is no way of knowing the truth.
In elite sport, the relationship between coach and athlete is a very close one. The position of the coach is powerful and influential and can have a large impact on not only an athlete’s performance but on their feelings of self worth. Thin Air explores these issues through the eyes of a young athlete where a position of power has possibly been abused, where a coach may be taken advantage of the vulnerability and unflinching trust of his athlete. Thin Air also takes us into the seldom seen world of gymnasts in training, where the unnatural is made to look easy.
CREW & OBJECTIVES:
My name is Natalie Nalesnyik and I am directing the film as part of my graduate year of Film and Television at Swinburne University, Melbourne, Australia. Working alongside a dedicated crew of like-minded individuals, we have been spending the year bringing the script to life and by November, we will have a completed film. The film will go much further than a graduate project and we are aiming for entry into national and international film festivals as well as short film competitions all over the country.
