:: PROJECT UPDATES 23.08.2011 ::
THANK YOU AMAZING PEOPLE. With your very kind donation Two-Minute Affair(s) is now able to be part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2011 without starving myself. You rock! :)
**PLEASE HELP ME TO RAISE $1500 NEW GOAL - to potentially travel this project to Adelaide in 2012, and to provide essential softwares (which I currently don't have) for current and future productions. Given the nature of this project, the only way to progress is to extend the work geographically. This is the beginning of a long, ongoing project which aims to leave more footsteps in the world that your facebook statuses :)

WHAT IS TWO-MINUTE AFFAIR(S)
Presented by the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2011, 'Two-Minute Affair(s)' is an ongoing project of performative videos done by Melbourne-based photomedia artist Nikki Lam, on the streets of Melbourne and on the train in Hong Kong. Engaging the public for two minutes via en electronic device, the fragile relationship between the artist and the public is an experiment of socialisation in contemporary societies.
Identity, space and globalism, this project explores our multi-layered society through manifesting the actions of online 'sharing' in a public setting. The virtual space that we consume everyday, transforms and evolves our identities a little bit at a time. At times confusing, we have 'shared' almost too much of our lives online that the idea of the online space becomes tangible. Veiled and communicated through electronic devices, Lam has pushed the boundaries of our diffusing identities and the ownership of 'space' (both virtually and realistically) via an anonymous character.
WHERE & WHEN
Performances will be filmed in Melbourne streets between now and September 2011.
Presented by Melbourne Fringe Festival 2011, the finished videos will be showing at the Propaganda Window (Melbourne) at night-fall (6pm - 11pm) from 27th September to 15th October.
Two-Minute Affair(s) will be projected onto the large-scale outdoor projection windows at 117 Franklin St, Melbourne CBD. It will be opened to the public for free.
WHO AM I
Hello my name is Nikki Lam. I'm a Melbourne based emerging artist who usually works with new media, video art, photography and performance work. Born in Hong Kong and have lived in Australia for 6 years, I often feel like an outsider, which has profound impact on my artistic practices. My works are usually developed within the areas of multiculturalism, languages, belongingness and identities. Graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Photomedia) in 2009, I have been exhibiting across Melbourne mainly in artist-run spaces.
It's my first time being included in the Melbourne Fringe Festival and this is the most ambitious project I've done by far - hence, your kind help is much needed :)
