A pop song that gets in your head, repeats over and over, and won’t go away is known as an “earworm”. The jewellery equivalent of an earworm is a piece of jewellery that you can’t stop wearing. You put it on every morning and organise the rest of your outfit around it. People give you compliments on it and you feel good when you see yourself in the mirror wearing it.
Vanessa R williamsThe exhibition includes very wearable earrings. These pieces are like pop songs because they are simple, catchy, unique and immediately recognisable as jewellery. As the opener for the series the mood of this exhibition will be upbeat and playful. It’s sure to be a real visual hit!
Hannah Carlyle There will be a musical performance by singer-writer Seth Mortensen on the opening night. He will be playing some catchy pop hits as well as his original songs.
Illustrator Geoffrey Goodes will be doing a painting on the walls of the gallery that will set the scene of the installation. It will be a surreal scene that provides a backdrop to all that glitters in earring forms.
Earworms is the first exhibition in the 'Unlimited Substance' exhibition series. This series includes seven exhibitions held at Gaffa Gallery Sydney from January to April 2015. For more information see - www.unlimitedsubstance.wordpress.com
How The Funds Will Be Used
If we raise more than the target amount these funds will go towards the costs of same things for the other exhibitions in the 'Unlimited Substance' series.
The Challenges
Even a small contribution from you will make a huge different to the project. If we reach our target of $600 we will be able cover the cost of the venue hire, opening night and promotion by the gallery. We will also be able to create and widely distribute top notch marketing materials. The artists will not have to pay a contribution and this would generate much good will in the group. Every small gesture of support means a great deal to us and gives us motivation to continue making new things!
The venue is secured, the artists are already working on their Earworms and now with your help we will amass an audience to appreciate, marvel and, hopefully, wear our wears!
