Slug - A Short Film

Down and out Harry has shut himself away in the family beach house, where he's spending his time wallowing in lethargic, drunken despair and eating baked beans straight out of the can. On a whirlwind emotional support crusade of the kind only older sisters can run, full-blown-adult Clare and fresh-from-Northcote Grace rock up for the night to help Harry get his shit together. Which would all be a lot easier if he wasn't secretly keeping a giant slug in the caravan out front.

'Slug' will be the graduating film from VCA writer/director/affable legend Patrick McBain. Informed by his own relationship with his three older siblings, the film will bring to the screen an unmistakable sibling bond with a good dash of surrealism, humour and poignancy. There's drunk dialing, shaman-blessed tea, cork-ash monobrows and wasted dancing. There's awesome daggy beach house decor. And did we mention the human-sized slug?

If you love the idea (or just really want our lead actor Ryan to confront his fear of slugs), don't be shy! We've got some great rewards, a fantastic crew, and a project we'd love to share with you all.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Your hard-earned won't be wasted here. This is what our $6k will go towards:

Accommodation: $1000
Keep our lovely cast and crew out of the cold and off the street for the duration of the shoot!

Camera hire: $3000
Can't make a film without a camera. We want to do our fantastic location and actors justice by shooting on an Arri Alexa

Test shot for 'Slug'.

Art department: $500
Dollars for our fantastic art director, Rennie, to make the grossest, biggest slug you've ever seen.

Transport: $200
None of us passed our apparition tests unfortunately, so we'll be driving up. Road trip!

Food: $1300
100% the most important part of any shoot.

The Challenges

Bringing a film to screen always has its challenges, but we're all super confident in the project and believe that our collective experience will help smash down any and all barriers. We have fantastic actors who can really bring the sibling relationship to life; we've got a crew of fierce fellas and females; we've got a caterer who's off the charts amazing; we've got an achievable schedule come rain or shine. All that's missing is your help to make it all happen!

Baby Slug

We love you, ya lil cutie! A personal shout out on Facebook from the slug team.
