It is really exciting to announce that 10,000 Small Deaths is a project that has been selected to be part of Underbelly Festival's Public Lab (July 24th - 31st) & Festival (3rd & 4th August) on the historic & industrial precinct of Cockatoo Island. Underbelly Festival is a unique opportunity to allow the history, charm and decaying industrial landscape to feedback and inform the development of the work. To make this happen we need some funds that will contribute to airfares & accommodation for the artists from Melbourne. Every $1 counts so any help would be enormously appreciated!
The Project
10,000 Small Deaths explores the dynamic between large-scale video projection & intimate solo dance performance. Taking advantage of the run down warehouse spaces, the body will be projected onto a large area, exposing the fragile & vulnerable qualities of the human form. With the body at the center we are aiming to create a visceral, hypnotic landscape interfacing the screen body, the live body & the bodies of the audience, shifting, being-in & engaging with ideas about the experiential self.
This is a work by choreographer Paula Lay, in collaboration with video artist Martyn Coutts, film-maker Mischa Baka & composer Kelly Ryall.

Pozible Funds will go towards:
Airfares for the 3 artists to travel from Melbourne to Sydney & 18 nights of accommodation.
In-kind support will be provided by Underbelly Arts Festival through venue hire, technical support, equipment provision & marketing/administration costs as well as in-kind donations through the artist's time, personal equipment & energy.
UNDERBELLY ARTS
Underbelly Arts exists to uncover Australia’s next great artists.
Since 2007 the Underbelly Arts Lab has provided opportunities for more than 600 artists to develop and create in a unique and supported environment where, over two weeks, audiences are invited to watch art unfold and take part in the process.
In 2013 Underbelly Arts is once again taking over Cockatoo Island and giving artists the chance to create and respond in one of Australia’s magnificent settings. These works will then be showcased as part of the Underbelly Arts Festival, a two-day art party that celebrates process, new ideas and the best emerging and experimental artists across Australia.
The Underbelly Arts Festival will take place on August 3 & 4.
