Hi, I’m Pete Barter — drummer, educator, dad, and lifelong muso from Adelaide.
Why Project 45?
The name Project 45 is more than just my age — it’s a layered tribute to music’s past, present, and future.
It’s a nod to the classic 45 RPM vinyl record, the format that shaped generations of music lovers. Short, punchy, and iconic — Records spun in bedrooms, garages, and dancefloors across the world. And like those records, this project is about making something timeless.
But it’s also about reinvention.
Just like the 45 converter that allows an old record to spin on a modern turntable, this project is about making the old relevant again — taking the sounds that defined my life and reimagining them with new flavour, new collaborators, and new technology.
We're pressing the past into vinyl, layering it with today's creativity, and handing it to the next generation.
Project 45 blends:
Classic influences with new arrangements.
Physical media (vinyl) with digital education tools.
Community connection with personal legacy.
For over 30 years, I’ve poured my heart into music: playing, teaching, mentoring, gigging, and supporting others in their own creative journeys. I've recorded on countless projects — from bands like Negative Joe, J-Hoe, ETI_Activators. thousands of hours behind the kit for other artists.
But I’ve never recorded something for me — until now.
When I say for me, it's ultimately, for you! featuring YOU!
Why Project 45?
In 2025, I turn 45. And to mark the milestone, I’m finally creating my debut self-titled album: Project 45.
This isn't just another album. It's a massive collaborative project featuring:
7 powerful tracks, including 2 originals
Featuring Many Guest artists from across the planet. ( As funding appears, ill reach out to my list of collaboration partners )
Many collaborators are award winning and or highly regarded.
A full arrangement with keys, strings, horns, guitar, industrial drums, and layered percussion.
A cinematic epic track that captures everything I love about music
A live recording event on 12th September 2025 in front of family, friends, and students
For years, I’ve put teaching, business, and others first. Between raising my kids, being a good Son, Brother, Partner, gigging weekends, teaching 80+ students weekly, and Building my software startup (SAMii), I’ve rarely made time to create something of my own.
Project 45 is my way of celebrating not just me, but everyone who’s shaped my journey.
Involving My Students – and Yours
One of the most special elements of this project is the inclusion of all 80+ of my students.
They’ll be featured in:
Audio recordings (tom grooves, loops, and layered percussion)
A music video filmed during the live sessions.
An educational release of the epic track, where all parts will be arranged and taught, with a student version available to learn and perform.
This educational model will even be extended as a SAMii educators’ offering, so other music teachers across the country can get involved and contribute.

This CROWD FUNDING CAPAIGN will help to bring the project to life and covers:

Help Choose the Covers – From My Top 40 of All Time
As part of Project 45, five of the seven tracks will be reimagined cover songs, each given the full PB flavour — think bold grooves, fresh arrangements, big energy, and plenty of heart.
But here’s the twist: you get a say in which ones make it.
I’ll be sharing a curated list of my Top 40 Songs of All Time — tracks that have shaped me as a drummer, educator, and music lover. From iconic anthems to hidden gems, they represent moments in my life, lessons I’ve taught, stages I’ve played, and the artists who’ve influenced my sound.
Out of those 40, 5 tracks will be selected (some by fan vote, some by special request, and maybe one wildcard from a sponsor) and then completely reimagined and rebuilt with the Project 45 sound.
Each cover will feature guest artists and powerful new arrangements — from cinematic strings to punchy industrial drums. It's not about playing them the way they were written… it's about playing them the way they and I feel now.
Whether it’s John Farnham’s “Playing to Win”, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Lovely Man”, or something off Dave Matthews Band’s “Crash” — these aren’t just songs. They’re chapters of the story.
