Vincenza Realehello, I have seen on Italian TV on your project and I was amazed. compliments ! Only one thing I would say, you believe that the dogs of the project originate in the Maremma region, but it is not real. The origins of the dog relate to subjects that the Ancient Romans brought to Italy from Asia, this is not a sheep dog as it is often indicated. The Romans called it "massatinus" from “masseria” ( farm ) , from which "mastiff". In Italy it was used for the protection of the farms and in the various zones d 'Italy took different morphological characteristics both for the climatic conditions and also for specific uses. In our case it was used in the Abruzzo region where for centuries defended the most valuable asset of the local people: the sheep. During and after Second World War, the shepherds followed the most of the ancient craft and white dog risked extinction. For the will of a noblewoman whose Maremma Tuscany, several subjects were maintained as not to lose the race, and in honor of the great work that was added to the name also the word Maremmano. But this dog is in fact Abruzzese! Surely those who know him can understand why the Romans became an indispensable companion. In him they are contained all the virtues that have determined the success of the 'Roman Empire: intelligence, strength, balance and distrust. Those virtues that make it the best in his work.
