MARISA BERTONAs the current President of Rate Payers of Werribee South we are a community group with members from the Agricultural and costal area of Werribee South and would welcome the possibility of a study to determine the viability of the area for Healthy Living initiatives, and educating to develop awareness of the area so close to Melbourne. With keen interest we await the outcome of the study plan.12y

Charlotte FaineThis is really important work. Too much of our farmland is being used for development. Having connection to where we grow our food is vital and in an era or rising obesity and disease rates, we need to ensure more attention is given to this so that our communities can become healthy again.12y

Vicki SwinbankI was talking to an asparagus grower from Kooweerup at one of Melbourne's farmers market recently. She said she was very concerned about the threat of housing developments to farmers in her area. When I mentioned that I had read some months ago that the local shire (Casey?) was committed to protecting food production, she said that's all very well, but that, as developers buy up land and rural areas get rezoned as residential, the rates go up, making it more and more difficult for farmers such as herself to survive. It is sickening to think that this area with its rich fertile soil, and its wonderful highly productive market gardens might be swallowed by housing developments.12y
Alison PeakeThis is an important project as it is vital that urban dwellers understand the pressures our food producers are under in trying to feed us all and minimise our food miles.12y
