Lighthouse Launch is the name of this project because we want to do just that - launch the Lighthouse squarely into the community to benefit the young people it was created for! We hope that through this crowdfunding event we can move towards obtaining a writing studio to use for writing workshops .

Our main fundraising event will be in April - a literary open-mic night where a Lighthouse Launcher ticket allows you to be part of the audience and hear read some wonderful original or existing works, or a Lighthouse Performer ticket gets you a two-minute block on stage to be part of the fun! There will be supper provided, art on display to purchase, live music and Lighthouse merchandise to purchase!

All funds raised will go towards securing a shopfront lease to be used as a writing studio for workshops, the most up-to-date software for publishing works as well as the associated costs including marketing and advertising.

During school hours the studio will be used for story time, book sharing and parent groups to enjoy a cuppa while their littlies enhance their love of stories.

Come 3pm and on weekends, the studio will magically transform into a space for school-aged kids to come and write like they've never written before! There will be book clubs, story clubs, newspaper publishing and so much more... all at no cost.

School holidays will see the studio run full-day and half-day workshops for a low fee, all of which will go towards supporting the program.

The challenge of encouraging young people to develop skills and confidence in their literacy is at the core of the Light Reading House. 

It is well documented that young people who are creative and critical thinkers are more likely to be successful in contributing to their society in a meaningful way; this is what we want to encourage!

We need to fund start-up costs, insurance and equipment as well as securing a team of like-minded volunteers to assist in running workshops and valuing the ideas that these young people have to share.

One of the main challenges will be marketing to the young people. We want the program to have credibility among young people and, by definition that kind of means that grown ups can't make them go there! So a strong group of leaders is required to plant the seed amongst the young people and allow word to spread...
