RE.FRAME

RE.FRAME is an immersive exhibition event in which four RMIT Fashion Honours students (Charlotte Ng, S//CLK, Irunika Anjalee and Jen Xu) collectively design a graduate showcase that explores forms of fashion presentation beyond the conventional runway.

From knitting to faux fur to embroidery, we as emerging designers share a strong textile-driven focus within our individual

practices, and we want to share and present this to our friends, family and the wider Melbourne creative community in the best way possible – through live and static installations.

Showcasing our final graduate collections using this live and static method, we invite you to come and view our collections a

little closer, as we combine the performance and viewing space into one experiential platform.

What started out as a group assignment has quickly become one of the most rewarding projects we as graduating students have ever organised and developed. As a not-for-profit, student-run event, we would appreciate your help and support in making this event a successful reality by purchasing tickets to come along to the exhibition showcase or by making a pledge to RE.FRAME.

meet the collective

CHARLOTTE NG (@charlottexdsg)

Charlotte is an emerging creative who is engaged with the presentation and expression of garment forms. Driven by the tactile exploration of material techniques, her design process focuses on creating textural moments within a garment. As an applied designer developing a contemporary womenswear practice, Charlotte’s approach to making is also heavily informed by the innate relationship that fabric has to the three-dimensional body it covers.

S//CLK (@samanthaclk)

Samantha Clark (S//CLK) is a young illustrator and designer whose aim is to represent women in all their forms; her own personal projects are a continuing exploration of both sexuality and gender. Her developing practice involves specialist skills in lingerie, textile development and knitwear thus tapping into her unique aesthetic as a lingerie designer.

IRUNIKA ANJALEE (@i_ru_design)

Irunika was born and brought up in Sri Lanka and travelled to Australia four years ago to complete her higher education. Her fashion design practice is heavily based on textiles that blend with traditional techniques associated with her culture and background. Her design process incorporates the merging of these traditional techniques with a modern contemporary fashion aesthetic.

JEN XU (@poopookio)

Jen was born in Shanghai, and moved to Melbourne when she was 14 years old. Coming from a mixed cultural background, she is particularly interested in reflecting her personal experience in her works. Throughout the building of her creative practice, Jen has developed great interest in knitting, hand sewing and film making. Having worked for various artists in the past, Jen also has strong passion for art installation and communication design.

By combining the viewing and performance space into one, we want everyone attending to be enthralled and feel immersed in our exhibition showcase. For this reason, we have chosen to have only general admission tickets available for purchase, however VIP guests will receive a collection of gifts from our sponsors should they choose the 'pamper me plz' pledge, as a heartfelt thank you for their significant contribution to our event. 

With great thanks to our event sponsors, we are able to provide our guests with plentiful drinks and nibbles on the night. Together with your generous help, we hope to make our final graduate project a truly memorable event, where guests can experience a unique presentation of fashion and connect with each other in the broader creative community. RE.FRAME <3

Holding an exhibition-style graduate showcase with live and static installation elements requires a great amount of planning, preparation and funding to ensure we exhibit our collections in the most effective and captivating way for our guests on the night.

One of our main challenges in the production of this graduate showcase would be organising human resources like our models and backstage helpers. We will be relying on the support of the creative community and our peers, though we will be crafting this event so that it is beneficial and worthwhile for a whole team of creative individuals, not just us. As such, we hope to provide a unique opportunity and experience for all our volunteers as they take part in an exhibition-based medium of displaying fashion.
