The Nit Note ~ 16mm short film
When six-year-old Noah is bullied at school for his head lice infestation, his elderly neighbour Antonio teaches him the true meaning of the saying “what goes around, comes around”.
"The Nit Note" is a comedy-drama shot on 16mm film that will run for approximately eight minutes, produced by five young, female filmmakers from Swinburne University of Technology.
SYNOPSIS
It’s 3:30pm at Greensborough Primary School and the final school bell of the day has rung. A crowd of students aged six years old come streaming out of a classroom, waving bright, yellow notes for their parents who stand chattering amongst each other. Detached from the main group of students, a blushing, young Noah, walks out of the classroom a few steps behind, holding a pink note with the words 'Dear Parent: During a screening examination, your child has been detected with head lice' visible at the top of the page.
This film follows Noah and the judgement that he experiences for having head lice from both the children at school and their gossiping mothers. Overwhelmed by the bullying that he faces at school, Noah visits his elderly, Italian neighbour Antonio to ask him for advice. It is here that Antonio relies upon his Italian heritage to amuse Noah in the best possible way he can think of - working together to harvest the grapes from his garden and crushing them to make homemade wine. During this process, Antonio attempts to connect with Noah and offer him some advice about his bullies at school. When Noah misinterpets this advice however, his actions have vengeful consequences.
