Announcing @ Men's Derby World Cup

A$3,975

Successful on 16th Feb 2014 at 8:44AM.
In March 2014 the first ever Men’s Roller Derby World Cup will be contested in Birmingham, England by teams from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden, USA, and Wales.

Months before the national teams were announced, calls went out for applications from referees, officials, volunteers and event staff. I had been announcing for local bouts and interstate tournaments for a year or so and thought I was getting kinda OK at it. So I joined the Association of Flat Track Derby Announcers and started taking it a bit more seriously. Encouraged, I sent in my application for the World Cup tournament, and a few weeks later I got an email in the middle of the night saying that I was in!!

The point of the story is that now I need your help to get to the UK in March to be Australia’s voice at the Men’s Roller Derby World Cup 2014. I need to get myself there and have somewhere to sleep and eat in between roller derby, and then get home again. I’d also love to take a recording device and make you an awesome audio documentary of my trip and behind the scenes of the tournament.
But all of these things take much more money than I can scrape together. So dig deep into your pockets full of roller derby love and generosity and pledge your support to get me and my microphone to Birmingham.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Your pledges will be used to purchase travel and accommodation from Hobart (Australia) to Birmingham (UK) in March 2014.

There is allowance (AU$289) for a portable audio recorder to produce audio documentary of the event and my involvement as an announcer.

Pledges in excess of my initial target will go towards my roller derby legend life-wife, Miss Millie, travelling with me to act as assistant and share in the roller derby world cup madness.

Pledges that exceed my wildest expectations will be donated directly to the Wizards of Aus Australian Men's National Roller Derby Team for their own travel and accommodation.

There is an allowance (5%) in the funding target to contribute to Pozible fees, Facebook marketing and small purchases associated with providing Pozible rewards. These include postcards and postage and blanks for handmade badges.

The Challenges

Announcing roller derby is not a full time job for me, so I have a full time job. I expect the organization of fundraising to be time consuming. Along with securing of sponsorship and donations for rewards, keeping social media updated, preparing for the event itself and everything else I will need to work to a plan. Even the launch of this campaign is far from the start of my efforts. I have been, and will continue to, attract and interact with followers on social media.
I am also aware that my funding campaign may not be successful. So there are also other contingencies to plan for, extra work to be done to boost my personal contribution and savings to be made.
Then there is the organisation of the practical logistics of getting to the event. To this end I will be talking with representatives from Australian Men’s Roller Derby and the Australian national men’s roller derby team, the Wizards of Aus, to work towards a trouble free journey and tournament.

Enormous gratitude and roller derby love to you, expressed both in my thoughts, and in the real (cyber) world of my Facebook page.
