Two films for the price of one!

Why two films?

Our aim is to get a Tasmanian film into the Tropfest Top 16.  What better way to double our chances than to produce two films? Between us, Dominique and I have produced numerous short films over the last few years (go to www.roganbrown.com.au to see some of them).  So we put our heads together (being Tasmanians, we know that two heads are better than one!) to bring two great scripts to the screen!

What are the films about?

Written by Meg Bignell
Angel Cake is a comedy set at a country cake drive. It tells the story of Jeanie, a woman struggling to come to terms with loss, and Lurlene, the incorrigible town busybody who has found a unique approach to bringing out the best in the town’s womenfolk...

Dingleberry is a short comedy about five-year-old Ben and his mother, Amanda. Amanda is like all of those mums out there who are trying to maintain some order in an otherwise chaotic, domestic world. In her efforts to  solve Ben’s simple problem and juggle (almost literally) everything else that's going on around her, she realises that sometimes things just come unstuck!

Who are the actors?

Meg Bignell - Jeanie (Angel Cake)
 Sara Cooper - Amanda (Dingleberry)
Anne Cordiner - Lurlene (Angel Cake)
Andrew Casey - John (Angel Cake)
Jane Stoddart - Grace (Angel Cake)
Nathan Spencer - Robbie (Angel Cake)
  Harry Opray - Ben (Dingleberry)

So who are the crew?

Both films are directed by Matthew Rooke and filmed by Simon Gray. Matthew and Simon have played significant roles in helping to develop the skills of emerging Tasmanian filmmakers over the years, and we are very proud to have them on board again. Other members of our outstanding crews are:

Producers: Dominique Hurley, Rogan Brown
Camera Assistant: Tom Waugh
Production Design: Gushi Soda
Editors: Jemma Rea, Tom Waugh, Matt Rooke
First AD: Scott Ince
Second AD: Marina Petrov
Sound Recording: Jamie Famularo, Hans Benisch
Lighting: Richard Williams
Continuity: Rose Schramm

Pretty impressive list, eh??

Where does your money go?

Everyone working on Angel Cake and Dingleberry is doing it for the love of it. If we make it into the Tropfest Top 16 we reckon that, even if we have to do it for free, it will be worth it. We want the light to shine on the Tassie film industry and thereby help it grow.

To cover all production costs, each film will require an amount of $2600. This will ensure that all our cast and crew members are looked after and that we are able to hire equipment to produce the best outcomes possible. Two films for $5200 is not a lot in the scheme of things.

So whatever amount you can spare we will be truly grateful.  And, hey, you’re getting two films for the price of one!

Thanks a million
