In 2010 I crowdfunded my debut 5-track EP and it went on to get airplay across Australia and was selected as ABC Radio National's 'Album Of The Week.' None of that would have been possible without the 55 people who pledged towards its recording. Now in 2012 I'm getting ready to record a new EP, and this time I'm going to make it BIGGER and BETTER!

Bigger, because I'll be recording 6-8 tracks, so it will be more like a mini album. And better, because I'm practicing guitar like my life depends on it, singing as much as I can, writing in every moment I can spare, and learning as much about the music industry as possible so the EP can have its best chance of success.

It will feature vocal arrangements by the incredibly talented Sarah McCallum (aka Miss Little, who also arranged/co-produced my first EP), some of the best local musicians I can get my hands on, and some brand-spanking new songs!

I've gotten a quote from my producer and here is roughly what I'm looking at:

BUDGET FOR EP (6-8 tracks):

Studio, Mixing & Recording = $6,160

Session Musos = $3,900
Arrangements = $600

Mastering = $800

Total = $11,460

And then there's the inevitable additional costs of:
Artwork = $1,000

Printing 500 units = $1,738

100% of that money is going to well-deserving creatives and technicians who make quality music happen, so even though it's expensive it's totally worth it, but I can't do it on my own. Now, as much as I'd like to deliver these interstate, I'm afraid this is a Sydney-only offer. They're best eaten on the same day as they're made so I'd suggest an afternoon tea party or the like.

Listening to music through an incredible studio sound system compared to your regular home speakers is like taking the cotton wool out of your ears and swimming in an ocean of bliss. I'm not even exaggerating - it really is an unforgettable experience!

With this reward, you'll be invited down to Free Energy Device studios in Camperdown, Sydney, to listen to the songs through speakers that can make your heart melt through your ears - in a good way. You'll get to meet the genius behind the sound and hear the tracks in the very place they were breathed into life, months before they even reach the hands of the reviewers.

T&C: As it is a fully-functioning studio, dates will be reliant on studio availability and the sound engineer's schedule. I will be in touch once the recording is complete to organise a time suitable to both parties.

Accommodation and/or flights are not included in the reward.

Home concerts are a lot of fun. I did a few as a reward for my last crowdfunding campaign and at one of them a woman proposed to me on behalf of her son (not that I expect that to happen at yours). You'll get to pick the set list, and I'll send you a list of my songs once you choose a date for the home concert. I should have demos for most of my songs if you're unfamiliar with any.

T&C: As it'll just be me and the guitar, it's best if it's an indoor event (unless it's a very small group and the weather's fine) and you invite a gathering of friends and family that will be able to hear me well enough without an amp - keep in mind that I don't have a booming voice and I fingerpick a lot of my songs.

This reward is mostly aimed at pledgers within a 2 hour radius of Sydney, but let me know if you live interstate and are keen for this reward as there are some towns I visit pretty regularly or would like an excuse to go to!

This is a very special nylon-string guitar. It's well worn, well loved and has seen me write countless songs. It also has a beautiful sound - so good in fact that when I went down to Melbourne to record 'Where Did I Go Wrong?' with Little Birdy, we had the choice between using Katy Steele's Maton and this one, and they unanimously decided that this one should be used for the recording.

So why give it away? Because I want to offer you something unique and integral to my development as a musician.

If you live in the Sydney area, I can deliver the guitar to you in person. If you live outside of Sydney I will be in touch to arrange postage.

This is the ultimate reward. Even I wish I could have this reward. You will be invited to the studio to sit back, relax, and watch the EP as it gets recorded. Not only that, but you'll be treated to Moet & Chandon and chocolate dipped strawberries. I wouldn't be surprised if more treats get thrown in as well - you lucky duck!

T&C: Accommodation and travel to and from the studio is not included in the reward.

Studio recording often involves periods of waiting while things get set up, and moments when the sound engineer needs to focus on preliminary mixing. I'll do my best to give you a schedule of what is happening when so you mostly arrive for the good stuff, and during the rest of the time there's Newtown just up the street or wifi to keep you entertained.

On the off-chance I make more than the goal amount, I'll either be putting that extra cash towards the remainder of my EP recording costs, promotion of the EP, or - if I have enough incredible songs worthy of recording - an entire album!
